Cade rarely mentioned his mate. I’d only gathered bits and pieces of what had actually happened, but why had he been crying? And to Davix, out of all people? Something wasn’t adding up. Yet still … again, his words cut like a bitch.
That asshole knew exactly what to say and when to say it, didn’t he?
So, I glared back. “Actually, no. I’m not talking about Cade.”
His icy glare turned into pure rage for the briefest moment, his jaw clenched hard, his eyes blazing gold, and his canines growing past his lips. “You’re gone for one fucking night, and suddenly, you have a new boyfriend.”
“Yep,” I said. “Jealous?”
“I’m not jealous,” he growled.
“Sure sounds like it.”
Jaw twitching, he drew his tongue across his canines and didn’t say a word. So, me being the nicest friend ever to him, of course, I decided to push even harder. If he wanted to hurt me, then I could hurt him too.
“He’s stronger than you.”
“Bull-fucking-shit, Ember,” he snarled. “Who is he?”
My lips curled into a smirk. “Oh, suddenly interested now?”
“Not because you’re dating him,” he said through clenched teeth, averting his gaze. “I don’t give a fuck about that, but there’s no fucking way you met someone stronger than me or Cade in Black Hollows.”
“Maybe he doesn’t live in Black Hollows.”
After staring at me for a couple of moments, he shook his head. “Stop fucking playing.”
“He tied me up in his bedroom,” I hummed, unable to suppress the full-on grin right now as I thought about that man’s hands all over me. How he could just barely stay away. His desperate restraint. How fucking much I needed him. “Left me there for hours.”
“Who?!” he shouted louder than I had ever heard. He was suddenly on me, his hand around my throat, pinning me to the wall, his body plastered against mine, his canines looking oh-so fucking delicious. “Who the fuck touched what is mine?!”
When the word mine left his mouth, my entire body shuddered.
His?! His? His.
Davix wanted me so fucking badly that he called me his despite telling me that he hated me, that he wanted nothing to do with me, that he didn’t care. Warmth flooded through my entire body. God, that was so hot …
“The red-eyed wolf who took me,” I said in a breath.
Of course, we weren’t dating. I didn’t even know his name, but if it made Davix angry, if it got under his skin, if it made him admit things that we both knew he shouldn’t, then I would do it. I would poke and prod him. Over and over and over again.
“You wouldn’t believe how I begged for him,” I murmured, loving every second of this.
Davix snapped his hand around my chin and moved my head to the side so he’d get full and complete access to the left side of my neck. Then his teeth were all over it, drawing his saliva down the column of my throat to my soft spot.
“You’re mine,” he growled. “Nobody touches what’s mine.”
My breath hitched. “Well, someone did.”
“You’re mine, Ember.” The tips of his canines brushed against my flesh. “Mine.” They pressed against me deeper and deeper, millimeters away from breaking the skin and claiming. “All fucking mine.”
“What’re you gonna do?” I said in a breath. “What are you going to do about him?”
He stiffened against me, his breath hitching a bit, as if he was fighting with his inner beast. “Ember, you’re—”
“His hands were all over me,” I taunted. “His mouth … his teeth.”
A ferocious growl left his mouth, and suddenly, all the tension was gone. “Nobody touches you. Nobody claims you.” He tightened his grip on my chin and his other grip on my hip, holding me in place. “You are mine.”
