When we reached my bedroom, Cade turned around and pushed the door open with his back, his hazel gaze fixed on me. “Think what you want, Em.”

“My appointments are, like, three hours long!” I said, and when I realized he wasn’t going to budge, I used the last hope I had to get him not to come to my doctor’s appointments with me. My gaze fell to the scar on his neck that formed an X right over his artery. “Well, if you’re coming, then I’m going to force you to tell me about that scar on your neck.”

It wasn’t that I didn’t want someone to go with me, but I knew how much time they took out of the day. I didn’t want to be a bother to anyone because of it. I already felt like I had bothered them both so much these past few months.

Cade stiffened for a moment, his jaw going rigid. Then he smirked. “You could beg me all you want, and I still wouldn’t tell you shit about that. What’s got your panties twisted today? See something spooky outside?”

“I would rather you not talk about my panties.”

“At all?” Cade set down the box on my bed and stepped closer. “Or just when your brother is around?”

My breath caught in my throat. Fuck.

I craned my head to look up at the chiseled-jaw, dark-haired man who my brother called his best friend. His muscles swelled, his biceps bigger than five of mine. I swallowed hard and wet my lips.

“At all,” I said, my voice barely coming out as a whisper. The warmth grew even hotter between my legs, my cunt still throbbing from what had happened in the forest. I glanced at my bedroom door. “Pavel will be home soon.”

“What’re you afraid of?” he asked, brushing his thumb across my lower lip. “For your brother to see how much of a desperate little slut you are for his best friend? You scared he’s going to hear you beg for my cock?”

“Cade,” I whispered, nipples hardening against my bra.

Cade moved closer to me, his breath in my ear. “We both know you take it so well.”

I swallowed hard and closed my eyes, inhaling his scent.

No more alphaholes. I promised myself!

After a moment, Cade pulled away and walked around my room to one of the many boxes, pulling it open and tugging a painting from it. “What’s this?”

God, he knows exactly how to push and pull, doesn’t he?! Just give me a little to crave him …

I leaped onto the bed, then jumped off on the other side to snatch the painting away from him. “Don’t look in that box!” I cried, yanking on the painting so he’d give it back. If he went searching through this box and saw that I had paintings of him, I’d be screwwwwed!

Pavel and I had moved here because nature inspired me to paint, but Pavel would say that we had only moved here because we were closer to Silver Moon Medical Center, where I could get good treatment. Still, neither of those reasons were Cade’s business.

“You like to paint?”

After I finally pulled it away from him, I grabbed the box and moved it as far away from that man as possible. “Sometimes, but it’s none of your business.”

He leaned against the wall and smirked at me again. “Do you have one of me?”

My cheeks burned. “No!”

“I bet you do.”

“I do not!” I exclaimed, ears tingling.

I would have to burn that painting immediately!

He stalked toward me, his hazel eyes glimmering again. With my painting held against my chest, I slowly backed up until I hit the closet door. My heart pounded inside my chest, and I couldn’t help the ache between my legs.

When he trapped me between him and the door, I craned my head to look up at him.

“Do you remember the last time we were alone?” he whispered.

Swallowing hard, I pressed my thighs together. “After the bonfire …”

When he had done more than just finger me …
