“Enough!” the man shouted.

Cade cleared his throat. “The Crimson Order has taken a human.”

“And why are you bringing this to me?” the man asked. “She’s not your mate.”

“I told him the same fucking thing,” I mumbled.

“I’d like to find her.”

“Where’d he take her? On the property you command? If you want to find her, go find her. You should know Black Hollows from the inside out. He couldn’t have gotten far with her, if she’s a human after all.”

“I need help.”

“You can find her yourself.”

“We’ve tried.”

The man clenched his jaw, as if he was done with the conversation. “It’s not my problem, and it’s not yours either. This human is not your mate. You have other duties to fulfill than finding a girl. And you have the damn audacity to bring Davix here to me.”

Cade bowed his head. Fucking bowed his head!

“Sorry, sir,” Cade said.

“Don’t fucking apologize,” I growled, shoving him forward. “Help him.”

“No.” The old man stood up and shook his head. “And you wanna know why? Because she’s your mate, isn’t she? And I don’t want to fucking help you at all. Your family is scum. Your parents’ parents, your parents, you. Every last one of your packmates deserves to die. Reaper, you will not help find this woman for him. Understand?”

Cade clenched his jaw and nodded. “Okay.”

“Remove him from this sacred ground.”

“Sacred ground, my ass,” I snarled, storming out of the office, down the hallway, and right through the doors, seething. Why the fuck had I wanted to come here again? I was in no place to fight all of the wolves here. Not with my wound. Not until I gathered my warriors.

Cade stepped out a few moments later.

“Such a fucking suck-up,” I growled.

“You think I follow his orders?”

“Sure seems like you do. If only you were that much of a puppy dog in my pack.”

“Things changed after my mate died because of your shitty family.”

“Still not over her?” I asked. “Should I tell Ember that you’re using her?”

“I’m not using her.”

“Yes, you are. You’re still not over your ex. It’s not my fault that our pack is cursed.”

“Our pack? No. It’s your family that’s cursed.”

“Well, you were mated to my sister, so my family is your family.”

“And you fucking killed her.”

“Keep telling yourself that.”

He slammed me up against a tree. “You started the war that got her killed. You couldn’t stop them from invading your territory. You couldn’t protect her. You abandoned her when she needed you the most. So, yes, you got your sister killed.”
