“No. You know who they are, don’t you?”
His lips curled into a smirk against my skin. “Yes, Lightning, I do.”
“How? Why? What do you want with them?”
“It’s cute,” he murmured. Though his voice was filled with spite, anger, possession.
“What’s cute?”
“You looking out for them.”
“I’m not looking out for them.”
“You care about them.”
“Is that a question?” I bit back.
“No. I know you care about them. Both of them,” he snarled. “And I don’t like it.”
Heat coursed through my body, and I pressed my thighs together discreetly, though based on what Cade had said earlier about everyone being able to smell me while I was turned on, I was positive he knew what his words were doing to me.
“Be careful, Lightning. You don’t know who you’re playing with.”
“Yes, I do. You’re from the Crimson Order.”
Instead of confirming, he chuckled darkly against me, his laugh making me tingle all over. His laugh, his voice … he commanded respect, commanded attention, power. It was something I’d only felt from Davix before.
But this was a different kind of power.
“Who are you?” I said between breaths.
“Their leader.”
I clenched. Their leader? When he had captured me, I had known he had some kind of authority there, but to hear him say it …
From what I’d gathered, everyone rightfully feared the Crimson Order, except Davix.
But still … it was hot as fuck.
Or maybe I was just … horny and going into heat.
My heart pounded. “Are you here to take me again?”
His lips fluttered against the column of my neck. “And if I am?”
“What did you need me for?” I asked. “You were testing me with Dr. Yoder.”
He tensed, and I took it as a chance to turn around and face him. The shadows from the trees covered his face, so I could only see the outline of his huge, muscular body, but those blood-red eyes glowed brightly under the moonlight.
“I saw he was there, and I know who he is,” I said. “What do you want with me?”
“Don’t worry about it.”
“I am going to worry about it if a stranger from the most feared pack in the world keeps showing up at my door, trying to kidnap me,” I said, straightening my shoulders and furrowing my brows. “What do you want with me?”
“You’re special, Lightning. That’s all I can say.”
“The people in your pack didn’t think so.”
