“Here are Michael's latest emails.”

We scan through them. There are a lot of emails about him boasting fucking Gia, which I know isn’t true. It sets me on edge, and I get angry, clenching my fists. He talks about Gia like she’s his piece of meat. He couldn’t fuck a keyhole with his tiny dick. Well, he won’t be trying any time soon, that’s for sure.

We spend the rest of the day going through all of Michael’s documents, carefully learning the Russo’s business model. This is useful for future endeavors. Some things I can use against the Russo Don if I so wish to. However, that would then give away that we were involved in the death of his heir.

He has other heirs. I’m sure it’ll be fine.

Rocco eventually leaves in the evening, saying he has another date. I confirm it’s not the same as last night, and he chuckles, saying, ‘Why would it be?’. My little player of a brother.

I go upstairs toward my bedroom, stopping to visit Gia along the way. I walk in, and I’m surprised to find her curled up on the sofa reading a book.

“This is a shitty selection,” she says without looking up.

“What are you reading?”

“A fantasy,” she comments. “I prefer romantasy.”

I sit on the sofa next to her, feeling her body heat next to mine. “I’ll have to send someone to get you a few. I’ll have them do that tomorrow and bring them to you.”

“You’re so kind,” she says with a smile, but the sarcasm hits.

I look at the cover of the book as she lifts it slightly. “I enjoyed that one. I thought the ending was particularly good.”

She looks up and glares at me. “Didn’t your parents ever teach you not to interrupt someone when they’re reading?”

I chuckle. “Sorry, sorry. I can’t help myself.”

I turn to her, and her soft scent hits my nostrils. Jesus, she smells so good. It’s overwhelming, and I reach out to stroke her cheek.

Before I can tell what’s happening, her teeth clamp down on my hand hard. Her teeth sink through my skin, and blood pours from the wound.

CHAPTER TEN

ANDREA

Ipace my study, not sure what to do with myself. I can’t believe this is happening to me on the precipice of the greatest deal of my life. Fuck!

I glance at Lorenzo, who is standing at the window looking out at the courtyard. I don’t have anything to say that would comfort him. Gia is his favorite; everyone knows that. Hell, she’s all our favorite; she’s our baby sister.

My phone rings, and I rush to answer it. “Anything?”

Francesco is on the other end. “Nothing to report.”

“Fuck!” I yell, sitting down in my chair.

I don’t know what to do. I have zero information to work from. I feel like a child in the first grade being chastised for something someone else did.

I know Michael wasn’t perfect, but he didn’t deserve to die, and then that asshole Matteo kidnaps Gia. That proof of life photo was almost comical because trust Gia to flip off a mob boss, but at the same time I was terrified looking at it because I knew she was in danger. Serious, life-threatening danger.

“Are they holding Gia there?” I ask after calming down only slightly.

“I don’t know. I haven’t seen any sign of her at the mansion. So if she is there, they’re not letting her wander around,” Francesco explains.

“What about the mansion's defenses? Can we take them on?” I ask with desperation in my voice. “Could we rescue her?”

“The property is seriously well guarded. Matteo has spared no expense on his security. There are men everywhere. There are high walls and cameras. They’d see us coming, and it would probably result in a bloodbath, and I can’t even confirm if Gia is there or someplace else.

“Fuck,” I say again.
