“I like it,” I admitted. An animalistic sound rumbled from him.

“Oh, ladybug, you have no idea how happy that makes me.”

“Show me,” I whispered, and he spent the next hour showing me and my body just how happy he was that I was in his bed and in his life.

Love isn’t always easy, but it is always worthwhile.

THIRTEEN

ADAM

Iwalked into the library and headed straight to the table that my girl and cousin preferred. It was this small spot towards the back that hardly anyone ever chose. It didn’t surprise me when Callie didn’t notice me. Her face was stuck in a book as she took notes. My lips lifted and my heart felt light and full all at the same time. She was fucking perfection.

Rox, on the other hand, spotted me right away. There was something going on with her still. Not that she had even hinted at anything. I turned to see who she might be looking at and had to do a double take. I could have sworn I saw Fergie, my buddy and pitcher of our team, but no one was there.

“Hey, guys.”

“Hey!” Roxie said with a tight, almost guilty-looking smile. “Study time is over, Cal. Date-night time.”

“What is your problem today?” Callie laughed, standing to kiss me hello before putting her things away.

“Nothing, just… tired.”

“Tired? Thought you quit one of your jobs?” I asked. She shrugged, making a non-committal sound before staring at the book in front of her like it was the most interesting thing she had ever seen.

Callie shot me a look, and I winked at her.

“Date night for you guys, and I’m going to study all night here. Have to pass my classes unless I wanna be stuck here for a fifth year.” Roxie joked a lot about this, but now I wondered if it was actually a joke or if she was serious. “I’ll be home tomorrow, just so you two know. You don’t have to worry about me walking in and finding either of you naked on the breakfast counter.”

“Ohmygod!” Callie blushed, looking around her. “I thought you promised to stop bringing that up!” I chuckled and shrugged, taking Callie’s backpack and tossing it over my shoulder.

“She’s just jealous she doesn’t have anyone making a meal out of her.”

“Oh, please! Dick is dick, and I have a great collection of toys that does the job.” I made a face because at the end of the day, Roxie was my cousin and that was TMI.

“Okay, enough of that. Ready?” I asked my girl as nerves started to get the better of me.

“Yeah.” Callie smiled brightly. She hugged Roxie and said, “See you later,” before she turned to leave,

“Here,” I said, handing my cousin my key.

“What’s this?” she asked, swallowing as she stared at the key in the middle of her palm.

“Key to my dorm. You can crash there if you need to and don’t want to stay here until your shift at the bakery.”

“Adam—“

“Keep it.” I nodded.

“But what about your roommate?”

“Ferg will be fine with it. I’m sure he won’t mind. He’s hardly there anyhow. And when he is, he’s hiding in his room with some chick.”

“Right, well, thanks.” The tips of her ears turned pink. “Umm… and good luck,” she whispered before turning her attention back to her book.

Nerves started to get the better of me while we walked to her place. The night was perfect—not too cool or warm, with a nice breeze in the air that only helped waft the scent of my girl into my lungs. If Callie noticed anything, she didn’t mention it.

Or she didn’t until we were standing in front of her door.
