“Adam. Stop teasing me,” I whined, and he chuckled.

“Anything you want, ladybug.” And he didn’t tease.

He didn’t go gently or slow.

No, Adam dove right in and ate me like a man on death row devouring his last meal. His fingers slid inside me, working me, in and out, curling upward just where I needed him.

“Yes!” I cried out. Adam was incredible at this. He didn’t do it as something to check off a list to get to the main event. No, he did it like he enjoyed it. Like he couldn’t get enough of me. And the way he gripped my ass cheeks? His touch was possessive, like he owned my body from head to foot. And he did.

“Oh god! yes! Adam! Like that, like that, baby! Ohmygod!” I screamed when my orgasm hit me hard and fast, totally too worked up from going down on him to try and take it slow. Waves of pleasure slammed against me one after the other as a riptide of euphoria made me see colors I knew could only exist with him. Sated and sweaty, I fell onto the mattress, too weak to keep myself on all fours. My eyes started to close as his lips peppered sweet lazy kisses on my back.

But just as I was about to fall asleep, something on the floor caught my eye in his mirror. Something that was under his bed. Green lace. My body froze in place, but he didn’t notice as he got up.

“Going to use the bathroom. Want me to get you a water?” he asked. I hummed my answer.

Casually, he grabbed the pair of shorts he’d kicked off in the middle of the night when we’d gone for a second round, and walked out. Slowly, without taking my eyes off the green material on the ground, I sat up in his bed. Without thinking, I reached for the shirt he’d tossed away that had landed in bed last night instead of the floor and pulled it over my head.

Green lace. I blinked and stared, trying to figure out why there would be green lace in Adam’s room. He’d said he was a virgin. He’d told me he had waited for me. That he could never pretend anyone was me.

Had that been a lie?

I swallowed down a sick feeling as I scooted off the bed and moved to the front of the bed, my eyes locked on the ground. When I kicked it out from under the bed, unshed tears sprang to life, making those green lace panties on the floor turn blurry.

“Shit,” I whispered and closed my eyes. Do not cry! Do not cry! Had Adam lied this whole time? Was this hooking-up thing some kind of game? He’d seen Trevor sniffing around and got jealous? Made up all this yearning, stalking me crap? Why did that hurt?

No! Adam isn’t like that! my heart chimed in, but my brain was going a million miles an minute. I was thinking so hard, I didn’t hear him open his bedroom door. I didn’t hear him close it and walk over to me. I didn’t notice him until his arm was wrapping around my middle.

“Hey, what’s—“ I looked up and over my shoulder. The easy smile on his face disappeared immediately and worry filled his gaze. “What’s the matter?”

“Were you really a virgin?”

“What?” His brows bunched.

“You said you never had anyone in your room.”

“I haven’t,” he said seriously, so honestly I wasn’t sure if I was crazy. He had lacy panties hidden under his bed. What else could they mean?

“Babe, where is this coming from?”

“Did you mean any of it?” My voice cracked, and horror filled his expression.

“I don’t know what you’re talking abo—“ I looked down and kicked the panties out from under the bed.

“Shit,” he cursed, and when our eyes connected, something ugly twisted in my stomach. “It’s not what you think.”

“Really? Because honestly, Adam, I don’t know what to think right now.”

“Breathe, lady—“ I pulled out of his arms and shook my head.

“Don’t,” I clipped, blinking away tears that threatened to spill. “Don’t do that! Don’t go all calm, soothing Adam on me. Just be honest. I wouldn’t have cared if you’d hooked up with other girls. I thought you did but—“

“Hey.” He reached for my hand. “Breathe. It’s not what you think.”

“Talk,” I demanded, and he had the audacity to roll his eyes. Roll his eyes! He bent and picked them up and held them out between us.

“They look familiar, ladybug?” he asked, and when I looked at them, really looked at them, confusion swept through me right along a bit of relief.

“Those are—“
