She watched my face.
“It’s good.”
“Obviously.”
“Don’t ruin it.”
She leaned over the counter far enough to see my planner.
Her eyes landed on the date.
A smile spread across her face.
“No.”
“I didn’t say anything.”
“You were about to.”
“I was about to congratulate you on making an excellent decision.”
“I haven’t made a decision.”
A smile spread across her face.
“You took the question mark off.”
I looked down at the planner.
Maybe one successful night didn’t mean I had to figure out what this could become, but I didn’t have to be afraid of doing it twice either.
“Yeah,” I said. “It’s official.”
Naomi grinned. “Monthly?”
“Let’s survive the second one first.”
“That wasn’t a no.”
“That wasn’t a no for now.”
I took another sip of coffee.
That seemed to satisfy her enough to send her back toward the café.
I opened the bookstore’s event calendar and added the date before I could change my mind.
The empty box filled with words.
Open Mic Night.
No question mark.
I sat back.
It was a small thing, one date on a calendar, but Chapter & Charm had been built out of small things.
The first wholesale order I’d been terrified nobody would buy.
