“Long enough.”
“That is not an answer.”
“It’s the one you’re getting.”
I shook my head, but I was smiling.
“I have to get to the studio,” he said. “I just wanted to bring it by before your interview.”
My smile softened.
“You came all the way over here before work for this?”
He gave me a look.
“Right. Another stupid question.”
He leaned down and kissed me.
“You’re gonna do fine.”
“I know.”
The answer left me before I could second-guess it.
Ellis smiled like he noticed that too.
“I’ll see you later.”
“Okay.”
He headed for the door, and I watched until it closed behind him.
I looked down at the journal still in my hands.
One thing at a time.
The bell above the door chimed.
I looked up.
A woman stepped inside with another woman behind her carrying a camera bag.
Okay, here we go.
I smoothed my hands over the front of my dress and stepped out from behind the counter.
“Luna?”
“That’s me.”
The first woman smiled and held out her hand.
We exchanged introductions, and she told me again what she’d explained over email. They wanted to talk about Chapter & Charm, how it started, what we offered, and some of the events that had made the store part of the downtown community.
Nothing I didn’t already know. It was my store. I could talk about my store.
Probably.
