I nodded.

“Okay.”

His thumb moved along my jaw before he kissed me again.

I shifted closer, my hand settling against his chest. The kiss stayed easy for a while, slow enough that I could feel him smile when I moved closer again.

“Why are you smiling?”

“Come here.”

“I’m already here.”

“Closer.”

I shifted until there was barely any space left between us.

“Better?”

“Yeah.”

I kissed him again before he could say anything else.

For a while, there was no rush to it and no wondering where this was going or whether I should slow it down before it got there.

I already knew I was staying.

Maybe that was why I let myself stop thinking about everything else.

My fingers slid along the back of his neck as the kiss deepened, and Ellis pulled me closer. His hand moved slowly along my back before settling at my waist.

I knew the feel of his hands now. The way his mouth curved when I pulled him closer. The quiet way he paid attention to every shift in my body without making me feel like I might break.

And when I wanted more, I didn’t wait for him to figure it out.

I showed him.

I kissed him harder, my fingers slipping beneath the hem of his shirt. His breath caught against my mouth when my hands met warm skin.

That got a smile out of me.

Ellis pulled back just enough to look at me.

“You smiling?”

“Maybe.”

His hand slid along my back. “Something funny?”

“No.”

“Hmm.”

I kissed him again before he could keep going.

Whatever teasing answer he might’ve had disappeared against my mouth.

The kiss changed after that. His hands moved with more certainty, mine doing the same, and when his mouth left mine for the side of my neck, I tilted my head to give him more room.
