I shook my head.

“You want to be my girlfriend, Luna?”

She didn’t make me wait.

“Yeah.”

“Yeah?”

“Yeah, Ellis.”

I smiled and tugged lightly on her hand.

“Come here.”

“I’m sitting right here.”

“Luna.”

She laughed but got up anyway.

I pulled her between my knees, and her hands settled on my shoulders.

“So that’s it?” she asked.

“What else you want?”

“I don’t know. That was your big question.”

“It wasn’t that big.”

Her eyebrows lifted.

“No?”

“No.” I slid my hands around her waist. “Feels like we’ve been doing this already.”

“We have.”

“So now we know what to call it.”

She smiled.

“My boyfriend?”

“See? You got it.”

She laughed just before I kissed her.

And that was it. No big moment or sudden change, just Luna standing between my knees in her kitchen while my daughter watched television in the next room and our dinner got cold on the table.

My girlfriend.

Yeah. That sounded about right.

I read the email twice before I believed it.

Then a third time because apparently twice wasn’t enough.
