I squared the edges of the deck against the table, even though they were already lined up.
“And you—”
“Careful.”
Tasha laughed. “See? That right there.”
“What?”
“You know exactly what I’m about to say.”
“I know you’re nosy.”
“I am. But I’m also right.”
“About?”
“You really like her.”
I looked toward the hallway.
Mila and Jacob were arguing about something now. I couldn’t make out the words, but judging by Mila’s volume, she was losing.
“Yeah.”
Tasha went quiet.
I looked back at her.
“What?”
“Nothing.”
“You wanted an answer.”
“I know.”
“And I gave you one.”
“You did.”
“So why are you looking at me like that?”
She shrugged.
“Because you said it.”
“I’ve never said I didn’t like her.”
“No, but you usually give me twelve other words before you answer the question.”
I laughed. “That’s not true.”
“It absolutely is.”
I reached for my water.
Tasha watched me for another second before something in her expression changed. Not serious exactly, just quieter.
