Whether the photographer Naomi recommended at the last possible second would give me anything worth using.
I knew the answers now.
Rachel came back.
So did everybody else.
And Ellis—
I stopped there.
Because Ellis didn’t just come back.
Somewhere between that night and this one, he became someone I expected to.
“Miss Luna.”
I looked down at Mila.
“What?”
“You like my daddy.”
My head turned so fast I almost hurt myself.
Jacob looked at her.
“Mila.”
“What?”
“You can’t just say stuff like that.”
“Why?”
He shrugged. “I don’t know. You just can’t.”
I pressed my lips together.
Apparently, Jacob and I were on the same page.
Mila looked at me.
“You do, though.”
I lowered my voice. “We’re listening to the lady read.”
“That means yes.”
“Mila.”
She smiled.
I looked toward Ellis.
Thankfully, he was too far away to have heard any of this.
Tasha wasn’t.
