Mila looked up at me. “You said we could come.”

“I said it wasn’t my idea. I didn’t say I was kidnapped.”

Luna laughed before looking down at the folded paper in Mila’s hands. “What did you bring me?”

Mila carefully unfolded it and held it out.

“We had to draw our favorite place at school.”

Luna took the picture, and I watched her eyes move over the page before her expression softened.

“Is this Chapter & Charm?”

Mila nodded. “That’s the kids’ section.”

“I see it.”

“And that’s me.”

“Okay.”

“And that’s you.”

Luna looked closer, and I did too.

There were two people standing near what I now realized was supposed to be the counter.

I pointed toward the taller one. “Who’s that?”

“You.”

I looked at Mila. “I’m in it too?”

She nodded like that should’ve been obvious. “You bring me here.”

Luna’s smile softened before she looked back down at the picture.

“And Miss Luna owns it,” Mila added.

“She does.”

Mila pointed toward another shape. “And that’s the reading chair.”

Luna smiled. “I like it.”

“You can keep it.”

“I can?”

“I made it for you.”

The softness in Luna’s face deepened as she looked at Mila. “Then I’m definitely keeping it.”

“Where are you gonna put it?”

“I don’t know yet.” Luna glanced toward the back of the store. “Maybe in my office.”

“So everybody can see it?”
