“Doubting me.”
“I’m not apologizing for having reasonable concerns.”
She reached down for her bag and settled it in her lap. “You showed up fifteen minutes early to pick me up.”
“Fourteen.”
“That does not help your case.”
I laughed and reached for my seat belt, but Luna didn’t move to open her door right away.
For the first time since we left the restaurant, neither of us said anything.
It wasn’t uncomfortable. I’d had enough quiet moments with Luna by then to know the difference.
This one felt like neither of us was quite ready for the morning to end.
She ran her thumb along the strap of her bag resting in her lap before looking at me.
“I had a good time.”
“Yeah?”
“Yeah.”
I leaned back against the seat. “Me too.”
Her smile came easily, and something about it made me forget about the clock for a second.
“I really like spending time with you,” I told her.
The words weren’t planned. I didn’t need them to be.
Luna’s expression softened as she looked at me. “I really like spending time with you too.”
Luna glanced toward Chapter & Charm and laughed softly.
“What?”
She shook her head. “I was just thinking about how weird this is.”
I raised an eyebrow. “Breakfast with me is weird?”
“Not that.” She looked back at me. “Just... all of it.”
I waited.
“Who would’ve thought my photographer canceling on me would lead to this?”
I smiled. “You mean lead to you almost being late for work?”
Her eyes narrowed. “See, I was trying to have a moment.”
“I’m listening.”
“No. It’s over now.”
“Luna.”
