“Come on.”

I followed her toward the back of the store.

“What am I doing?”

“You’ll see.”

“That sounds threatening.”

“It’s not.”

“That’s exactly what somebody says before asking you to do something terrible.”

Luna laughed but kept walking.

She led me toward the same section of the bookstore we’d cleared for Open Mic Night.

It looked different today.

Half the chairs had been pushed against one wall. Two of the café tables sat crooked in the middle of the floor, and several boxes were stacked nearby. A freestanding display had been pulled away from its usual spot, leaving the whole area looking like Luna started rearranging things and stopped somewhere in the middle.

I stopped beside her.

“What happened over here?”

“Nothing happened.”

“You sure?”

She gave me a look. “We have an event Saturday.”

“What kind?”

“Community reading day. Story time in the morning, a book drive, a few giveaways, then some activities for the kids in the afternoon.”

I looked around again.

“And this is the plan?”

“This is the middle of the plan.”

“Good.”

Her eyes narrowed. “What does that mean?”

“I was worried for a second.”

“You’ve been here five minutes, and I’m already regretting asking you to come.”

I laughed.

“Okay. What do you need?”

She pointed toward the tables.

“I need those moved closer to the front so we can use them for the book drive. The chairs need to go over there, and I want to clear enough space near the children’s section for the kids to sit on the floor during story time.”

I followed her hand as she pointed from one area to another.
