I smiled.
It is if I don’t know what you’re about to ask me for.
The typing bubble appeared.
Disappeared.
Came back.
What do you need?
Long enough for me to set my phone down and turn back toward my computer.
It buzzed before I could touch the mouse.
I need help with something.
I read the message twice, not because there was anything confusing about it, but because in the few weeks I’d known Luna, I’d heard some version of I’ve got it more times than I could count.
What kind of help?
The able to lift things kind.
I laughed.
So I’m being used for manual labor.
I prefer “utilizing available resources.”
That’s worse.
Are you going to help me or not?
I didn’t make her ask again.
I’ll be there in twenty.
Her response was nothing more than a thumbs-up.
Still, I was smiling when I put my phone down.
Twenty-two minutes later, I walked through the front door of Chapter & Charm.
The bell announced me.
Luna looked up from behind the counter.
“You made good time.”
“You said you needed help.”
“I didn’t say it was an emergency.”
“You also didn’t tell me what I’m doing.”
“I figured that would increase my chances of getting you here.”
I shook my head as I approached the counter.
