“I was planning to.”

“No, I mean—” I pointed toward the screen. “I like that one.”

His eyebrows lifted slightly.

“What?”

“Nothing.”

“That was a something face.”

“You have those categorized now too?”

“I’m learning.”

He looked back at the picture.

“I just thought you sounded surprised.”

I was.

More than he knew.

I couldn’t remember the last time I’d seen a picture of myself and liked it before finding something wrong.

There had been a time when taking pictures had been fun, before every request for another one started feeling like an inconvenience.

This one is fine, Luna. You look the same. How many pictures do you need?

Eventually, Lucas hadn’t even needed to say anything. A sigh had been enough. A look. I’d learned to glance at the screen, say it was fine, and move on because that was easier than feeling like I was asking for too much over something that wasn’t supposed to matter.

I looked at the photograph again.

No one had asked Ellis to take another one.

He’d taken his time because that was what he did.

And somehow, in the middle of it, I hadn’t felt like something that needed to be corrected.

“You don’t like it anymore?”

I blinked.

Ellis was watching me.

“No.”

His brows pulled together.

“No, I do.” I laughed softly. “That’s the problem.”

“The problem is that you like your picture?”

“When you say it like that, I sound ridiculous.”

“I wasn’t going to say ridiculous.”

“You were thinking it.”
