As soon as we’re in the bedroom, I pull him into my arms and kiss him deeply. Entwining our tongues together, I savour the taste of him and the fizzy drink he’d been sipping all evening. I keep kissing him longer than I intended but eventually have to break it to breathe.
“I love you,” I tell him. Those three words have been said a lot today, but I need him to hear them again. “And I never want another letter from you to sound like a goodbye, ever again.”
His face falls as a sadness creeps across his features. “I would have,” he whispers. “Said goodbye, that is. To keep you safe.”
His voice sounds like a miracle to my ears, I’ll never get used to his sweet and slightly husky tone. But I bristle as the words themselves.
“Never,” I tell him more firmly. I understand his sentiment, really, I do, but I also know that if he were ever to protect me that way, I’d jump straight into whatever the danger was, rip it from reality, and then get back to his side.
He smiles then, like he’s read my thoughts, before leaning forward and kissing me again. He lifts the t-shirt I’d pulled on earlier before we ate, and I lift my arms so he can remove it. He then lets me unbutton his shirt and rids himself of his shorts too.
Before long we’re naked and writhing together on the bed, me pinning him down into the mattress.
“Can I fuck you?” I pant between kisses, and I’m met with an enthusiastic nod. It doesn’t take me long to locate the lube bottle and get my fingers inside him. I nearly drive myself insane by taking my time to open him up, but I’m glad for my patience when my cock slides with ease into his body and I’m swallowing down his little breathy moans as I rock into him again and again, claiming him, and giving myself to him.
A feminine groan echoes from upstairs, followed by the sounds of slapping skin. Milo and I lock eyes as we realise our girl is getting railed above us. It spurs me on, and I move my own hips a little harder and faster until Milo is crying out with the pleasure my Jacob’s Ladder is delivering to his prostate.
Touching, groping, licking and sucking any and all areas of skin that I can get my hands and lips, I fuck Milo into oblivion. Keeping my weight over him, but leaning on one elbow to not crush him, our bodies are so close that his dick gets stimulated between our stomachs. The precum he’s leaking is enough lubricant to ease the friction of our skin enough for him to find pleasure.
He comes without either of us having to use a hand on him, and I follow him soon after, filling him with my cum as his paints our chests.
I wish I could have it on me permanently, a way to show the entire damn world, every single realm that may exist, that he is mine. And no one is going to change that.
Chapter 49
Tacita
Ididn’t think two weeks would pass so slowly. And in some ways, they haven’t. We’ve been stuck in my apartment still, having agreed that until Wyatt and Milo were fully converted to demons that they would be safest within the wards of my home.
Not that I see it as just my home anymore. They both have their new clothes hanging in the walk-in wardrobe, toiletries in the bathroom we share, and we’ve even had a few other homely items delivered that they’ve ordered using my bank account–which I’ve totally encouraged them to do.
Garrick, as well, is leaving more and more stuff in the apartment. He has a place in Tartarus, which is where he was living full-time, but spends more nights than not sharing a bed with the rest of us.
No, my apartment is definitely our apartment now. And I wouldn’t have it any other way.
They’ve all met my parents too, who have been over for dinner. Twice. The phone call I’d made the day after Hades had come over to reveal the findings of his research had certainly come as a surprise to them. But I knew my parents would love each of my guys and be totally cool with our arrangement. They are overjoyed that I have finally found partners who I want to spend forever with.
Milo was, as I guessed, the most shy around them. Although, Garrick did give him a run for his money. Wyatt, of course, jumped straight in and was talking for the first few hours entirely by himself, barely letting me join in the conversation.
On the second time they came over, two nights ago, everyone seemed more relaxed, and my mum totally took Milo under her wing. He’ll love them once he trusts they’re not going to leave. I know it.
Today is finally the day of the ceremony where my humans will finally, permanently, get their demonic forms.
Landing on the beach of the Styx, after Khaos came to steal my humans hours earlier and leaving me to fly in alone, I’m greeted by the main orchestrator of this event. Garrick had also had to leave early, his team helping Charon set up the beach ahead of the ceremony and ensuring the area was secure.
“Death Bringer, I didn’t think you’d miss this. Not after we didn’t get one last decade.” Charon is wearing his signature black wool robe, his face covered just like mine is. He doesn’t wear a mask but his hood is so deep you cannot make out his facial features from within its hidden depths. I swear he uses the shadowy magic of the Styx as well, to create extra darkness to swirl around the opening and at his feet.
The reminder that we didn’t get a ceremony like this a decade ago is a sobering one. Instead, there was a funeral gathering of all the families of the guards we’d lost along the beach where Charon docks his boat.
Today the vibe is mostly celebration, although a memorial for the four guards we lost is also on the schedule. Eleven contestants made it through the games. A lower than average number, but still, they deserve to celebrate.
“Wouldn’t miss it for all the magic in the realm,” I sign to the death reaper. Being in my Death Bringer guise means I can’t talk for much of the day. But I’m not lying, there is nothing and no one that would stop me from watching this today.
“Has Hades filled you in on the latest?” Charon drops his voice and moves closer so only I will be able to hear his question.
Indeed. Some of the elite spies within Hades’s employment had come back just yesterday with evidence to give us a solid theory for why the Angels have started targeting us. “Have you noticed an increase?”
“Of course,” Charon answers. “But the human population has exploded over the last couple of centuries. There are a lot more souls in existence. But have we been getting more than the Angels? That is hard to track. And I just look after the Styx, I don’t decide whether the soul comes to Heaven or Hell when it departs the body in the human realm.”
