“The box was empty,” Razor explained.
Angel froze. “It was empty?”
Razor nodded. “Someone beat us to it.”
“Who?” she asked.
“I was hoping you could tell me,” Razor said.
Angel looked at Crow, and he looked genuinely confused. “I didn't take it.”
Razor laughed. “Of course you didn't.” Jackhammer's instincts screamed at him. Something wasn't right. Mouse had found the ledger and Razor had been looking for it. Crow had been protecting Angel. Shadow had died trying to expose something. If none of them had the key—
“Who knew about the graveyard?” Jackhammer asked.
Angel frowned. “What?”
“Seven years ago—who knew your dad built it?” Hammer asked.
“Everyone,” she said.
“No. Who helped him build it?” he asked.
Angel thought. “Me, and Shadow sometimes helped. Crow complained about it every year, about having to decorate for Halloween.”
Crow managed a weak smile. “Still do.”
“Who else helped?” Hammer asked.
Angel shook her head. “I don't know.”
“Think,” Hammer ordered.
“My dad didn't let prospects help with the cemetery. He said they screwed everything up,” she said.
“Okay, how about his officers?” Monster asked.
“He let them help sometimes,” she admitted.
“Did Razor help?” Hammer asked.
She looked at him. “Never.” Razor's expression changed, and Jackhammer saw it.
“So someone else knew,” Jackhammer said.
Razor stopped smiling, and Ghost seemed to notice, too. “Who was it?” Ghost shouted.
Razor said nothing, and Monster stepped closer. “Looks like our friend here knows the answer to our question. He just doesn’t want to share.”
Razor stared at the floor, and Angel moved directly in front of him. “Who knew?” He still said nothing. “Razor.” He looked at her, and for the first time since Jackhammer entered the barn, Razor looked afraid. Not of Ghost, Monster, or even him, but of the answer he wasn’t giving them.
Crow tried to sit up, and Pain tore across his face. “Razor.” Something in Crow's voice made Jackhammer look at him. He couldn’t tell if it was a warning, fear, or recognition.
Angel turned to face Crow. “You know what he's talking about?” Crow didn't answer her. “Crow?”
Razor laughed quietly. “He knows. Just ask him.”
Angel looked between the two men. “Ask him what?”
