Crow nodded. “She talked about you.” Jackhammer's anger disappeared, and he looked at Angel. She looked away, and Ghost noticed too.
“Does she?” Hammer asked.
Crow nodded. “She talked about both of you.”
“Shut up,” Angel muttered.
Razor laughed again, and Jackhammer was getting really fucking tired of that sound. “You boys have no idea what you stepped into.”
Jackhammer turned. “No. I know exactly what I stepped into.”
“You think this is about Angel?” he asked.
“Yes,” Hammer shouted.
“It's about Viper,” Razor corrected. Angel went still, and Razor smiled. “And Shadow.” Jackhammer remembered the road name that Gabriel Torres went by. He was Angel's dead lover, and everyone except for her called him Shadow.
“What about him?” Ghost asked.
Angel stepped forward. “Don't,” she warned. Jackhammer looked at her, and he could tell that something had happened before they arrived—something bad.
“Angel?” Hammer said.
Her expression changed, just slightly, but he saw it. “Gabriel helped Razor set my father up.”
Jackhammer stared at her. “What?”
“That's not the whole story,” Crow said.
“No,” Angel whispered. “Apparently, Gabriel spent the next six months trying to fix it.”
Razor smiled. “Until I killed him.”
Ghost raised his gun, and Jackhammer didn't stop him this time, but Angel did. “Wait.”
Ghost looked at her. “He knows something.”
“I know lots of things,” Razor said.
“What aren’t you telling us, honey?” Jackhammer asked.
Angel looked at him. “Gabriel wasn't dead when I found him.” Her voice cracked, and Jackhammer's anger disappeared.
He moved closer to her. “Baby.”
“I thought he was.” She shook her head. “I remember holding him, and there was blood everywhere. I remember screaming.” Jackhammer took her hand. “But Razor says he spoke to me.”
“Did he?” Hammer asked.
“I don't know,” she breathed.
Razor answered for her. “Yes, he did.”
Jackhammer looked at him. “And let me guess—you know what he said?”
“I do,” Razor boasted.
“Then start talking,” Ghost ordered.
