“Absolutely,” Hammer agreed. He stood and grabbed Larry.
Ghost laughed. “Wait.”
“What?” Ghost walked over and pulled the plastic devil horns from the skeleton's head. “What are you doing?” Hammer asked. He put them on his head, and Hammer stared at him. “You look like an asshole.”
“It's Halloween,” Ghost insisted.
“It's three and a half weeks until Halloween,” Hammer reminded.
“According to Monster, that's basically tomorrow,” Ghost countered. Hammer shook his head at him, and for a moment, things almost felt normal. Then, Ghost's phone buzzed and both men froze. He looked at the screen and saw Mouse’s name. He had sent a text.
Found something else. You aren't going to like it.
Ghost's smile disappeared as he typed back.
What am I not going to like?
The response came almost immediately.
Angel didn't just disappear after Shadow was murdered.
Three dots appeared just before another message popped on the screen.
The Grim Saints accused her of killing him.
Ghost stared at the screen. “Fuck.”
Hammer dropped Larry, and the skeleton crashed to the floor. “What’s wrong?” Ghost slowly held out the phone, and Hammer read the message. Ghost saw the rage in Hammer’s eyes. “Bullshit.”
“Maybe, maybe not,” Ghost said with a shrug.
“She didn't kill him,” Hammer insisted.
“You've known her one fucking day,” Ghost pointed out. “How the hell would you know if she killed Shadow?”
“I don't care if she did,” Hammer said. “Doesn’t change the fact that I want to go find her.” It didn’t matter to Ghost either, and that was the problem. His phone buzzed again, and he almost groaned.
One more thing.
Ghost waited for Mouse to finish typing.
Someone started asking about Angel Sanchez three days ago.
His blood went cold as he typed back.
Who?
Mouse's answer appeared.
Nomad Knights MC.
Ghost looked at Hammer, and the same realization passed between them. Angel hadn't wandered into Monster's Madhouse because fate decided three lonely people needed each other. She was running again, and this time, whatever she was running from had already found her trail.
Ghost ripped the plastic devil horns off his head. “Get your gun.”
Hammer was already moving. “Thought Monster said we stay put.”
“He did,” Ghost agreed.
