My mind stayed stuck on Chris. On the way she looked, she seemed exhausted and hurt.

I kissed down Jessica’s neck, taking her plump nipple into my mouth. What if I had something and didn’t know it? Some of that shit doesn’t show up…

But we used a condom. I tried to shake the thoughts away.

Jessica reached to push my pants down, but my dick was still soft.

I rolled over onto my back, staring at the ceiling.

“Ay,” I said. “You need to go.” My mood was off, and I didn't want her in my space anymore.

She sat up to look at me. “Are you serious?”

“Yeah.” I sat up and grabbed my phone off the nightstand.

“If I leave, I’m never coming back, Vel.”

“Your ride’s five minutes out,” I said, heading to the bathroom.

By the time I got out, Jessica was headed out the door. I followed her outside to make sure she was good. I wasn’t a monster.

Then I spotted Chris’s Crown Vic still sitting there. She ducked like that old-ass car wasn’t a damn fishbowl.

CHRIS

Damn, they can see me…

I ducked below the dash, feeling like an idiot. The Crown Vic had no tint; I might as well have been sitting in a lit-up aquarium.

I heard the girl yelling about being sent away for “the bitch in the car.” So, the bitch in the car got out. Let me try being nice.

“My car broke down. Just waiting on a tow. I’ll be gone soon.”

“Regardless,” Vel chimed in, his voice calm as he led her to the ride-share car. “I asked you to leave. You said you weren’t coming back.” He opened the car door for her.

“Don’t lower your standards for me, love.”

Jessica was still fussing as she got in the ride.

Vel walked past me and stopped in his doorway.

“Come on.”

Reluctantly, I made my way back into the house.

I grabbed the same glass of wine from fifteen minutes ago and the bottle, then kicked off my shoes before settling on the couch with the remote.

Vel watched me with curiosity.

Once I was settled, he laughed. “What the hell are you doing?”

I sighed. “The tow truck won’t be here for two hours, and you told me to come in. What, you want me to stand in the corner and not touch shit?”

“Why you got that old-ass car anyway?”

“Watch it. That was my daddy’s old-ass car, and it’s been doing just fine. I think I pushed it too far today.”

“Put it away in storage and get yourself a real car. A car like that... your daddy was either a drug dealer or the police back in the day.”
