She didn’t even try to fix her mouth to speak to me.

“I don’t think she meant anything by it. Listen, how ‘bout I walk you to your hotel? They have you staying at the Westhaven right?”

I nodded to confirm.

“If you're not tired by the time we get there, have a drink with me at the hotel bar.”

“What about your car?”

“I'm a grown man; I'm sure I can find my way back to it.”

“Smart ass.” I rolled my eyes but stood to head towards my hotel.

He laughed as he got in step with me.

The night sky was just coming to life, signaling the end of another day.

“I love how perfect the weather always is here.”

“Yeah, it’s an amazing place to live. You know we have a permanent spot open; it’s yours if you want it.”

“You got pull like that, Dr. Debaro?” I asked teasingly.

“For a nurse as good as you are, no pull is necessary.”

His eyes scanned my body before he slowly licked his lips, making it pretty damn clear he wanted to know what else I was good at.

I shrugged. “I’m good at a lot of things.”

“I bet you are,” he said, smirking down at me.

I could feel my cheeks heating as I tried to hold back my smile.

We made it to the hotel in no time, and I didn’t want my time with Dr. Debaro to end just yet.

So, we made our way over to the bar.

He was very charming. His stories seemed a bit exaggerated but entertaining. He didn’t monopolize the conversation; he made sure to ask me questions and actually listened to my answers and responded.

The bar was in hell.

After our third drink, I was starting to feel it. I wasn’t drunk, but I was definitely ready for bed.

“Here, let me take you up to your room.”

I didn’t argue; I just took his outstretched hand and let him lead me to my room.

He still held my hand as we stood outside my door. I looked up at him, both of us exchanging cheesy smiles. He leaned in, and I didn’t stop him.

His lips were soft and gentle, like he was cherishing the moment.

His hands wrapped around my waist, and he pulled me into his body, causing my bag to fall to the floor.

He started to deepen the kiss, his tongue searching for mine.

I placed my hand on his chest and pushed him away, ending the kiss.

Both of us stood there trying to catch our breath.
