I do not complain. I lie on his chest with his arms wrapped around me for a while.

“Bruce?”

“Yeah.”

“Your sperm is dripping out of me.”

He laughs and I roll onto my side. He tucks himself back in. I look down and see it dripping. “I have nothing to clean myself with.”

He takes his T shirt off. “Lie down,” he says. I lie back down and he starts to wipe me with his shirt. Once he is done, he tucks my legs into my dress shorts, and I lift my hips to pull it all the way up. He lies next to me and squeezes my hand. I smile and squeeze his hand back.

We lie quietly for a while before his phone starts to ring. He answers and tells them he will call back in thirty minutes.

“Time to go back?” I ask the moment he’s off the call.

“Yes, but I like it here with you, so five more minutes before we head back.” He states

I nod and lie back on the blanket. “How come there is a blanket here?”

“This was my mom’s favorite place. When she was sick, Dad used to bring her here. He still comes here and leaves a blanket. I know Lincoln comes here too.”

“It is a nice place for peace,” I mutter. I feel like I could stay here forever.

“And having my cowgirl ride the fuck out of me.” He teases

I laugh and smack his chest. He pulls me into a kiss that feels like our souls have mated and our forever is sealed here.

Chapter thirty-nine

Bruce

Jola goes upstairs as soon as we return to the house. Ice and I go to my dad’s office to discuss business. David didn’t return with Dad. Something about an errand and he will be back later. Don’t care. Jola and Dad resume their puzzling as I work.

We all have dinner, and just as we are finishing, David arrives. I ignore every bait he sends my way. I keep my focus on Jola. He eats dinner alone and goes up to bed.

Jola says she will take her pill again so I can hang out with my dad and not worry about her. I didn’t want her to, but I know she wouldn’t agree with me that she is not intruding on our time together.

Jola takes her meds and sits next to me on the sofa. I know in the next thirty to forty-five minutes she may start talking or be completely knocked out. That is why I don’t like her taking the meds. Granted, I was a benefactor, but I wouldn’t want any other man around when she is that vulnerable. I now understand why she only takes it when she feels safe. We settle down to watch the movie on the loveseat; Ice takes his seat in the recliner. I know he will not leave until I put her to bed. Dad is upstairs, and my annoying brother is up in his room.

We are about thirty minutes into the movie when my watch and Ice’s watch ping, alerting us to an issue at work.

“Ice and I need to take this call,” I say to Jola.

She nods, but I am quite sure she barely heard me. The medication is kicking in. She lies on the sofa, watching the movie as Ice and I head toward my dad’s office. On our way, I see David coming down the stairs. We ignore him and head into the office and immediately set up.

“What’s up?” I say the moment we connect with Malik.

“Smith just requested extra backup. The client’s son, Pete, started a club fight.”

“Shit.” The kid is a fucking pain. He acts like he owns the world and everyone must bow to him. “Send backup to Smith and connect with our friends at the police department. We don’t want him getting booked.”

“Already done,” Malik says.

“Keep him locked up in his apartment for the next twenty-four hours with two guys. Make sure Smith is not one of the men.” He might knock him out just to keep him quiet. Pete is exhausting to say the least. I cannot fathom why he does not understand the people after his father will kill him. Everything he does is like he is calling attention to himself or asking to be kidnapped.

“Noted, boss.”

“Show me the rundown of the club, Malik. I want to see exactly what happened.” I watch Malik click away on his computer and we soon connect to see angles of the club from when Pete entered. Suddenly, I feel a shudder, my body goes tense. Shit. Jola.
