I get to my feet. “I know. I realize that now.”

His charming smile warms my heart. “Good. I’m glad.” He cups my face and I find myself leaning into his touch. His hands. His fingers that I love so much. “I always told you that you don’t have to fear me, baby. I know I may be a bit of an ass sometimes. But it’s because I care for you.”

“I’m scared,” I admit. “Of Aleksander. Of what may come next. But I’m no longer scared of you. That’s… all gone.”

He bends down and plants a soft kiss to my lips. Maxim doesn’t try to push it. I can sense the tentativeness inside of him. He’s unsure, which is unusual for him.

I know in my gut what I want.

I want to stop fighting Maxim. I want to give in to him. I want to let him protect me. I want to let him own every part of me.

So I say the words that I’m terrified to say but I know I need to say. “Take me. All of me.”

Chapter Fifteen

Elena

Ican see the surprise in Maxim’s eyes but also the lust. “You’re ready?” he asks.

“Yes.” It feels like the most natural thing I’ve ever said.

“I feel like I should question why you’re ready now but frankly, I’ve wanted you since I first met you. And I’ve been dealing with blue balls for weeks now. So fuck, Elena. I want you.”

I can’t help but smile as he kisses me again. My charming husband. The one who saved my life. The man I know I can trust. I’m tired of pushing him away. Tired of pushing everyone in my life away.

I want to open up for once and I’m ready to do that with Maxim.

He lets out a low growl as he gently pushes me against the desk. I wrap my arms around his strong shoulders and pull him in closer. His presence. His aura. His smell. Everything about him was designed to make me fall into him. Maxim’s spell.

I’ve seen him do terrible, horrifying things. But after Aleksander, what Maxim has done seems mild. Maxim is a mafia man and I have accepted that. Instead of choosing to be afraid of him forever, I want to be happy. I need something good in my life and Maxim feels good, even if it’s just for the moment.

I gasp when he grips my hips and sets me on the desk.

“I’ve wanted to take you in this library,” he says against my lips. “Surrounded by books. I know how much you love it in here. It’s a little kinky, isn’t it?”

“I wouldn’t know.” I can’t help the blush that covers my face and Maxim gives me a knowing look.

“Of course you wouldn’t. My innocent wife. I can show you so much pleasure.”

I try not to think about how Maxim became good at what he does. The women he’s been with. I don’t even know the full number. Right now, that doesn’t matter. Maxim is with me and me only.

“There’s still so much more for me to show you,” he says. “We haven’t even begun yet. Do you want me to show you?”

I nod, unable to speak. A lightheadedness overtakes me but I push through it. I want to remain present in this moment. I need to.

Maxim pushes my skirt up and pulls my panties down my legs before he kneels on the ground. I frown as he parts my legs.

“What are you doing?” I whisper.

“This.” He brings my hips to the edge of the desk and plants his face right between my legs. I gasp when his lips wrap around my sensitive nub.

“Maxim,” I whisper. This new sensation is so different from his hand. It’s softer but still powerful. It’s more taboo, knowing his mouth is right… there.

I grip the desk as he runs his lips all over my folds. A part of me wants to push him away from it all. Maybe I’m not fully ready.

But I want this, I remind myself. I am ready. I need to push past my fear and give in to him. It’s the only way I’m going to be truly happy in life. I need to learn to fight when the time is ready and I need to learn to stop fighting when I don’t need to do it.

And right now, I don’t want to fight Maxim.
