“What I told you about fawning all over that nigga in front of me?” he questioned while wrapping his hand around her throat. “You know what it does to me, Tycelyn.”
She giggled chipperly like he wasn’t collapsing her airways. “I’m sorry, baby. You know I have to make it real, but you always have been and always will be the only man in my heart.” While I was busy trying to process her words and everything I’d seen, I didn’t realize I’d been spotted eavesdropping. “Here go this violin playing bitch again.”
My eyes snapped to her snarl as she marched up to me. JoJo slowly turned to glance at me over his shoulder. Before I could say anything, she lifted her hand and smacked me so hard my teeth chattered. “Babe, what are you doing?” he asked her with a chuckle.
“She needs to mind her damn business, and don’t nobody feel like hearing her sounding a mess and disturbing me while I’m trying to take my midday nap.”
I’d never been a punk, so my instincts kicked in, and I slapped her ass back, catching her off guard. Next thing I knew, we were hard down fighting on the sidewalk, and ole boy was sneaking in hits while pretending to break us up.
“Aye, let her hair the fuck go before I break this shit,” I heard him yell out, putting a stop to my assault.
I looked to the right to see he had my abandoned violin in his hand. Reluctantly, I released the tight grip I had on her hair while I pummeled her face. She fell to the ground in a heap and broke into tears. “Baby!” she whined loudly. “She hit me!”
He lifted my violin in the air, then slammed it against the ground. “Forget whatever the fuck you saw or heard today and stay the fuck from around here,” he threatened in a menacing tone, but all I could see was my ruined violin.
He helped gather her off the ground while I rushed to my knees beside my baby. “Bitch!” she blurted before pushing me toward the ground. All my previous energy disappeared as I tried to understand how my day had turned into this. “Aa ha, ho! Bet you’ll think twice before you so call put your hands on somebody again. I don’t have to play on the streets for money. You do, brokey!”
My bottom lip trembled, and the sound of blood rushing to my face hindered my ability to hear much of anything else after that. I hadn’t done anything wrong in this situation. All I did was defend myself, but I was the one who had no clue where her next meal would come from while this girl played two men like a fiddle. Life could be so fucking unfair, and I knew it was my fault I’d ended up in this situation in the first place. If I could do it all over again, I would’ve heeded my parents’ warnings. Maybe then I would’ve never found myself homeless and now without a way to feed myself too.
“Yo, what the fuck are you doing?” I questioned Tycelyn before reaching for her elbow. I’d come back from chopping it up with my homeboy DJ Southside to find her twerking on JoJo. We were childhood friends, for sure, and there were a lot of things I’d shared with him over the years, but my woman was not one of them. If he were any other nigga, I would’ve stole off on sight for playing in my face, but because of our history, I remained calm.
She waved me off, barely able to stop dancing because the liquor we were drinking was on her ass. “We’re just having fun, baby.” She slurred, stumbling to the left then the right. If it weren’t for my grip on her elbow, she would’ve lost her footing and fell.
JoJo walked up and tossed an arm over my shoulder. “Chill, bro. You know what they say . . . It ain’t no fun unless the homie gets some.”
He laughed, but I never joined in because I didn’t find a damn thing funny. I mugged him, slightly lifting my shoulder, so it caused his arm to drop. “You can have any bitch you want, but mine is not for the team. You need to put down the Sade because it got both of y’all trippin’ tonight.”
JoJo lifted his hands in surrender but tilted his chin upward. I turned to find Tycelyn on the table dancing for the entire section. Her skirt was so short that the second she bent over, her bare pussy was on display for everyone to see. Seeing all the niggas in the section crowd around her made a sour taste fill my mouth. I reached for her to get her off the table.
“You’re doing a fucking lot right now. Chill the fuck out,” I warned in a low tone.
“You’re ruining the fun, babe. It’s just dancing. Everyone knows I’m going home with you at the end of the night. It’s a part of the lore. They can look, but they can’t fuck me like you can.”
I wasn’t sure if her intention was to feed my ego, but her words angered me more than anything. “I don’t need my girl to show her ass to make niggas jealous. That’s childish as fuck, and what would even make you want to lower yourself to doing something like that?” I realized I sounded like a broken record when it came to this girl. She was always doing some stupid shit that made me feel like she wasn’t the one for me.
Ty tossed her arms around my neck, and I could smell the liquor on her breath before she even opened her mouth. “You’re making it bigger than it needs to be, and it’s ruining my vibe. Where’s fun KC?”
I sucked my teeth because she wasn’t the only one whose mood was ruined. With a shake of my head, I swallowed my annoyance because I really didn’t want to ruin our night. I had plans for that juicy pussy of hers when we left this damn club, and arguing was sure to make me not even want to look at her, let alone touch her.
Satisfied with my silence, Ty turned in front of me and began to dance to the music. My hands went to her waist as I admired her curvy frame. Her previous actions were almost forgotten until she decided to start back up again. I watched her motion for JoJo to come closer with her finger. What further bewildered me was the fact the nigga walked up on her without a second thought.
I stood there watching her dance between the two of us until I couldn’t take it anymore. Call me jealous or whatever word in the book described my boiling blood, but I was over it. Without a word, I turned and began to make my way out of the section. I was almost there when I felt someone grab my hand. I turned to find Ty standing there with a pout.
“Baby, where are you going?”
“Home.” I shook her off me. “It looks like you don’t need me to have a good time, and I’m not about to stand in your way. Do whatever you want, but just know you ain’t my girl while you’re doing it.”
She waved me off and went back to where JoJo was pouring himself a drink. She said something to him, and he poured liquor in her mouth in response. With a slow nod, I turned and left not just the section but the entire club. Tycelyn always loved to put on a show, and I just chalked it up as she loved to be the center of attention. Tonight, she was on a different level, though. Like, there was no way she really thought I was cool with passing her to the homie.
The roaring sound of thunder snapped me from my thoughts when I stepped outside. It looked like a storm was brewing, but the loud music of the club hid it from the patrons inside. The valet pulled my Corvette to the door, and I hopped inside before skirting off a second later. I took my frustration out on my accelerator as I made my way toward home. I was nearly there when the sky opened, and it began to rain so hard I couldn’t see a damn thing.
Thump! I slammed on the brakes, making the tires spin, but I didn’t lose control. Tossing the car in park, I ignored the green light that had me ready to pull off and hopped out instead. Despite the heavy downpour, I could very well see a woman on the ground in front of my car. My heart dropped seeing the way she was twisted, and the sound of her crying made me stumble backward. Fuck! Just when I thought the night couldn’t get any worse, I was faced with a different kind of nightmare.
My entire body ached from the force of the car that’d hit me. I went down while my book bag went flying somewhere I couldn’t see. I had been in a complete daze since my violin was broken earlier, so I couldn’t say if the driver ran the light or if I’d walked out in front of them. Either way, I lay on the ground feeling as if I had nothing else to live for, utterly devastated and confused on how this was what my life had become.
Sobs tore out of me, and it was raining so hard I wasn’t even sure anyone could hear me or would even care. There was no one in my life who cared about me anymore, and it broke my heart to know that if these were my last moments, I had no choice but to spend them all on my own.
A car door slammed somewhere nearby before I heard someone curse. Seconds later, a blurry figure appeared over me. “Are you okay?” a deep voice questioned. I opened my mouth to speak, but only cries poured out of me. “Can you move?” Again, instead of words, all he got was tears as a response. He tried to get me to get up, but I refused, kicking and flailing my arms as best I could. I just wanted to lay there. My life was nothing worth waking up from this nightmare for. I was at the point where I just wanted it all to be over. He could let the rain drown me or run me over; I literally didn’t care either way.
