Lydia took a seat beside him and unfolded the letter. “Then it’s good that a townhouse in London and a hard cock are all I require.” She graced him with a smile and slid her hand over said staff, which graciously jumped in the major’s breeches.
The missive was as she expected: a gentle, sweet note that made her long for a bed so she might rest her eyes.
“Is it so bad as that?” asked Denny, pouring the Madeira.
She waved the sheet so they might see the tight, perfect lines covering the pages.
“Looks worse,” murmured Chamberlayne.
“Should we travel faster?” asked Carter. “We could leave the main road.”
“And stay at shabbier inns?” asked Lydia.
“I like an inn with a good quantity of wine, but I’d give up my comforts for you,” said Denny, filling Lydia’s plate and putting it before her. “Eat now, worry about the letter later.”
Lydia set it aside reluctantly. “There’s nothing to be concerned about. My sister cannot possibly interfere with our plans, given her interesting condition. I’ll write a note in return, and we’ll be on our way in the morning.”
“How did her rider know where to find us?” asked Carter, ever mindful of the enemy’s intelligence.
“Few roads going to…” Chamberlayne started. “The major is correct. Who would think to send a rider in that direction?”
Shrinking in her seat, Lydia hoped the men wouldn’t notice her. And why would they when they had a fine meal laid before them after a day of hard travel, not to mention the wine and—
“Lydia,” said Carter.
“Yes, Papa?”
“Do you know why the rider was able to locate us?”
“I made friends in Brighton,” she pleaded. “You recall Mrs. Butterworth and Miss Filch? I very much wished to continue our acquaintance.”
“And you therefore sent them a hasty letter before we decamped Brighton in a rush?” asked Denny, leveling her a look.
“I may have…left word at the front desk of the hotel.”
Chamberlayne regarded her with pity.
“For them and any other friends we did not have a chance to say goodbye to,” Lydia finished.
Denny downed his small glass of Madeira and poured another. “Then we should go to bed early tonight so we might make haste in the morning.”
“It’s only a matter of time afore the whole of the cavalry is on our tail,” said Carter.
“Then I had best be thoroughly debauched before they arrive,” said Lydia, taking a candle to guide her way upstairs.
Chapter 2
Lydia tried to fall asleep early, but drifting off proved rather difficult when Chamberlayne crawled between her thighs and feasted upon her cunny.
“Didn’t you get enough to eat downstairs, auntie?” Lydia asked. Her fingers tangled in his hair and guided his enthusiastic lapping.
“I’m always happy to eat downstairs, dove,” replied Chamberlayne, flipping her over so she was face-down against the surprisingly lovely bed.
She had a cheek pressed to the bedclothes and arse shamelessly up, Chamberlayne licking and sucking her quim from the back, when a voice sent her scurrying for the blankets, nearly sending her biggest beau crashing to the floor.
“They’re at it again.”
“We can’t leave our ladies alone for one night; they toss up each other’s skirts.”
