He kissed her again. “You’re my mate,” he said. “And we’ll find a way to bond. Just like we’ll find a way out of here. We’re unstoppable.”

“Good for us.” He knew her sarcasm was just to cover up how scared she was. Hell, he was scared too. If he couldn’t heal her, how could he get her out of here?

We can heal her, Wolf said.

This was the last thing he needed. Wolf going nuts. What the fuck do you know about healing?

I’m Wolf. I know about my mate. He gave a tiny growl. Respect the Wolf.

Well, he hadn’t gotten anywhere by dissing Wolf and refusing to let him out for the last ten years. He might as well give it a shot.

How do we heal her?

She healed us, Wolf said. Back in the concrete forest. And last night. She put part of herself in us. We just have to give it back.

How?

Love her. But don’t bond. Not yet.

Kane was stunned. Wolf had instincts, and a mind of his own. But he’d never actually had ideas. Or plans.

He explained to Rachelle what Wolf had said.

She thought it over, stroking Kane over his heart, where Wolf lived. “It could work,” she said. “Wolf’s saying I gave some of my energy to you, just like the energy I have from Selina. If I could take in hers, I could take my own energy back, if you wanted to give it to me.”

“I like the idea of having it in me,” he admitted. “But if it will heal you, I’d give it back with all of my own to go with it.”

She stroked his cheek, and he leaned into her hand. It felt so good to care without holding back. To feel his feelings, for once.

“So, should we try this again?” he asked. “Carefully?”

He felt her take in a breath and heave it out. “Okay.”

Kane felt like he was making love to a porcelain doll—something fragile and precious, that would be ruined with too much rough handling. He kept his touches light, his kisses gentle. He took his time bringing Rachelle once more to the edge of climax.

When she was ready, he rolled onto his back and pulled her up to straddle his hips. She took his cock in her hand and positioned it at her entrance, sliding slowly down so he filled her.

The slow build, the holding back, made it somehow more erotic. Almost like something forbidden. “You’re so beautiful,” he said. He moved his hands over her hips, sliding up to her breasts, rubbing his thumbs over her hard nipples to make her roll her hips, sheathing him tightly and stroking his length.

His head went back at the sensation, slick and velvety soft.

She rode him, slowly at first, feeling her way into a rhythm. Not being able to see her, Kane lost himself in the sensation. He pictured himself and Wolf in Seattle, scared and alone, and then Rachelle singing them to sleep, her hand on his chest, or snuggled up to Wolf as he kept watch.

He felt her healing presence, the energy she’d infused in him every time she showed her love.

Her arms around Wolf’s neck last night, telling him he was beautiful. He was brave.

He was loved.

His love for her rose up inside him, and he held her hips and moved into her, rising to meet her and thrusting his cock deeply inside her. He could feel his climax approaching, and at the same time he felt Rachelle tense around him.

He could almost see the wave of healing love rising between them. He thrust into her one last time, hearing her cry out and feeling her orgasm rippling over him. He felt as if he would burst with love for her, and let himself go, releasing his warm seed into her, and returning the healing she’d given him.

And once again, everything went black.

Chapter 19

When Rachelle woke, it was dark. For a minute she thought she was still in the dream cave, but then she felt the bed underneath her and her eyes could make out the furniture in Kane’s room.
