“I’m a tracker. I pay attention to everything.”

“Uh huh. Sure. What’s Mikey’s favorite hobby?”

“Doesn’t count. Don’t fucking care.” She laughed, but inside she felt a little fizz of happiness. If he didn’t really pay attention to everything, then it meant something that he paid attention to her. “Mikey’s cool. You really need to get over that grudge.”

“Leave me alone. I like my grudges.”

She put the box carefully back into the bag, and then put her hands around his face and pulled it down until she could rest her forehead against his. She’d seen him do this to his cousins—once—and knew it was how he showed affection.

His arms came around her and drew her to him. Inside, karaoke was going strong, but out here, the night was dark and quiet. They were all alone at their end of the parking lot.

Sanchez tilted his head and kissed her. As soon as their lips touched this time, it was like something Madison had always been waiting for had clicked into place. She could feel the intensity inside him, the pent-up emotions that he almost always kept in check. But right now, everything was in slow motion—the way his mouth settled on hers, the way he wrapped his arms around her, the way they seemed to fit together.

Heat and light ignited in the middle of her chest, like a sun coming to life, and filled her with a joy like she’d never felt before. Our wolf, Vixen said. Good wolf. Sexy.

The kiss deepened, and he lifted her up so that she was sitting on the end of the back seat of the truck, her legs straddled around him. She could feel him, hot and hard against her, hear his wolf rumbling in his chest. She slid her hands up under his shirt, over his warm skin, loving the way it felt.

His hand was underneath her shirt, cupping her breast, playing with her nipple. It sent lightning sensations down to her core, and she moved her hips against his, his hard shaft hitting her in the perfect place.

The growl got louder, sexier. His hand moved down the front of her pants, and she gave another little moan. They’d barely started making out and she already was on fire, already wanted him. She moved against his hand, silently asking for more, and he gave it to her. Like magic, her jeans were unsnapped and unzipped and his hand was between her legs, dipping beneath her underwear, teasing her slick folds.

Oh. Oh, fuck…

Sanchez had one hand behind her head, kissing her mouth, her cheeks, giving her neck little tiny love-bites before going back to kissing her.

The other hand was still down her pants, expertly teasing and stroking, until she forgot everything but how amazing it felt. He increased the rhythm, keeping the pressure perfect, until she felt the wave rise up and take her over, and she clung to him, shaking with her climax, her moans muffled by his mouth.

When it subsided he pulled her to him, still kissing her, stroking her hair, blocking her from the view of anyone in the parking lot with his body.

Madison felt like she was floating, somewhere in a haze of alcohol and sex and Sanchez. Then suddenly, his heavy breathing turned into a growl, getting steadily louder. She felt his whole body start to ripple, fur coming out on his back and arms.

He ripped away from her and Changed completely, his wolf shaking himself out of his clothes. He lifted his head and stared at her, silent now. She took a hesitant step toward him, holding out her hand, and then she heard Breanna outside the bar, calling her name.

Sanchez’s ears went up. He whipped around, and bounded off through the woods bordering the parking lot.

Madison zipped up her pants, scooped up his clothes and tossed them in the truck. Then she grabbed the bag with her present and slung it over her shoulder.

Slamming the truck door, she went to meet Breanna.

Chapter 18

“Hey,” Breanna said when she saw Madison. “You out here all by yourself?”

She shook her head. “I was with Sanchez. He picked up something for me while he was gone, and I wanted to get it. But then… he had to pee, so he stepped into the woods.”

Breanna was frowning. “You want to wait for him?”

Madison was pretty sure Sanchez wouldn’t want anyone to know he’d gone wolf when he didn’t intend to. “No. He said he was probably going back to the Ridge.” She tried to make light of it. “You know Sanchez. He can only take so much socializing at one time.”

Breanna still had that look on her face, like she knew something was up, but she didn’t ask any more questions. They dropped the bag off in Switch’s truck and then went back inside.

They stayed another hour, doing karaoke, finishing up with all the women onstage singing “Try Everything” from Zootopia. Colt and Remy and Sloan were so drunk they took their shirts off and pretended to be the sexy tiger backup dancers from the animated video, which made the girls laugh so hard at one point that they could barely even sing.

But even as Madison was jumping up and down and singing about not giving up and not giving in, her body and mind were still buzzing with thoughts of Sanchez. She couldn’t believe she’d just had an orgasm in the back of a truck in a bar parking lot.

And it had been awesome. But she was also unhappy for Sanchez—how he’d done something so thoughtful by getting her the paints, and then getting sexy with her had made him turn wolf.

Was that going to happen all the time? Was it why he ran hot and cold—sometimes acting like he really liked her, and other times being so standoffish?
