I wanted to ask how, but he still seemed tense, so I didn’t push. I took his outstretched hand, and looked up at the house. “Who lives here?”
“This is Rainer’s home.”
“And just two of your brothers will be here?”
“Yes.”
He called them brother because of their strong friendship and not because they were actual brothers. I knew this because I’d asked him. He led me up the stairs and the door opened before we reached it. We walked in, and the older male who opened the door motioned us to another door to the right.
My nerves fluttered wildly back to life as Constantine led me into the room.
Two massive males stood by a bar, talking low. Their brides sat on a couch on the other side of the room, huddled together in conversation. Both stood when I walked in. I remembered them both from the ceremony.
“Join the females,” Constantine said and ushered me in their direction. “I need to talk with my brothers.”
“You said you wouldn’t leave me alone,” I whispered desperately.
“I won’t. I’ll be right here in this room.”
I wanted to plaster myself to his side, but that wasn’t an option, so I took another breath to steady my nerves. “Okay.”
He walked away, and I turned to the females watching me and forced myself to walk over to them. “Hello, I’m Delphine.”
“I’m Ana.”
“I’m Lucinda.”
Ana had black hair, soft features, and her eyes were a vibrant lilac. Lucinda had long, wild red hair, lavender eyes, and a dusting of freckles across her nose.
“It’s lovely to meet you both,” I said.
Ana grabbed my hand and tugged me down to sit with her. “Are you okay?” She looked around me to Constantine.
Lucinda grabbed my other hand. “Has he hurt you?”
“No, he’s been…good to me. And your males?”
Lucinda glanced across the room, then back. “No, Rainer hasn’t hurt me. He’s intense and quiet and looks at me like he wants to do…well, I don’t know what, to me, but he hasn’t hurt me.”
Ana’s face reddened. “Stefan likes me to drink from him, a lot.”
“I think Constantine does as well,” I said. “I know I do.”
Ana grinned. “I, um, quite like it as well.”
“How do you think the others are doing? Do you think we’ll get to meet them?” Ana asked.
Lucinda sipped her drink. “I hope so. Maybe all of us could be…friends?”
“I’d like that,” I said, a rush of happiness filling me. I hadn’t sat down with females my age and had a conversation since I was fifteen years old and then only rarely.
Lucinda bit her lip. “Have you mated yet?”
“I don’t know. I don’t think so,” Ana said.
“Oh, you’ll know.” Lucinda leaned in. “Rainer said we were bonded through the sharing of blood, but there’s something else we have to do to become mated.”
I straightened. “We’re not mated yet?”
