Brent nodded, then opened his laptop. “I signed a confidentiality agreement, along with my clients.” He tapped a few keys. “I’m sorry, I can’t tell you anything, Magnolia.”

Chaya stood, taking Brent’s hand. “We need to step out of the office for a few minutes to check on something,” she said. “Will you excuse us?”

They walked out and shut the door firmly behind them. I frowned. “What the hell was that?”

Bram was already up and around the desk.

“What are you doing?”

Bram looked up and grinned. “He couldn’t tell us, but what if it’s on the screen and we happen to see it?”

I rushed around the desk, and the members list was right there, along with another list, members who’d signed in the night before Chance’s attack. Brent had left it open for us. I quickly did a search for the obvious names.

They were all members, and they were all here last night.

“We’ll need a copy of that and the full list of members as well,” Bram said and tapped a few keys.

The printer started up a second later, spitting them out. I snatched everything up, folded it and stuffed it in my pocket.

The door to the office opened a minute after we sat back down. They were probably watching us on their security cameras.

I stood again, and placed the keys to the apartment on his desk. “We need to head off, but I’ll be in touch, and we’ll make a time for me to come and ward the club.”

“Make sure you do,” Brent said, holding my gaze before he stepped aside.

Bram and I strode out, through the club, out the door and down the alleyway.

“Where do we start with these? There has to be a couple hundred names on the members list,” I said as we walked toward the car.

“We start with anyone who’s remotely connected to the prom committee. Business associates, friends, family, anyone who went to Roxburgh High, especially if they were at Red the night of Chase’s attack.”

CHAPTER 23

Magnolia

We got out of the car and looked up at Maria Watson’s apartment building. She lived in the penthouse, thanks to her family and their money.

“She hung up on me,” I said, shoving my phone in my pocket. As soon as I gave Maria my name, the line went dead.

“Surprised?” Bram asked as he shut the car door.

“Not at all.” I shielded my eyes and looked up at the wide balcony jutting out from the top floor. “We just won’t give her a choice.”

Robert and Jenna had locked down their home and weren’t answering calls, at least from numbers they didn’t recognize. Ryan had snarled down the line for me to fuck off, and there was no way Isaac would talk to me.

Another person had almost died, and I had nothing, no leads. They hadn’t released his name to the public, but I’d seen on Nightscape that the latest victim was alive and had been put into an induced coma.

They’d also thrown in that Willow was still “at large.”

There was no way to question Chase, no way to find out if he knew who tried to kill him. Isaac’s smug face kept popping into my head, his gleeful expression when they came for Willow at the clubhouse, the way he was with Calvin that night, oily, manipulative. He’d treated Calvin like his attack dog. Calvin had lost it, then one command from Isaac, and he’d backed away snarling.

Then Calvin had turned up dead as well.

Isaac had to be involved in this somehow, and the more I thought about him and his actions in the past, the last couple of weeks, the more convinced I became that he was capable of almost anything.

With no other leads, we’d spent most of the night looking up names on Brent’s list. There’d been a few surprises, one of them being Rook’s name. I’d shown Bram, and he’d raised a brow but hadn’t seemed overly shocked that his brother would frequent a place like that.

Besides the prom committee members, and Maria and Isaac, there were three other people who were linked to at least one of them, all via business of some kind, and who had been at the club the night of Chase’s attempted murder. Chloe Chan, a wolf shifter, was the first. She was the Hazarks’ realtor and had been a member of Red for several years. Ryan Alway had only been a member of the club for the last four months. I shuddered, and I knew firsthand he was deep in the inner circle. And the last was a shifter named Luke Donaghy. The male was rich and powerful and, since moving back to Roxburgh, had made a name for himself as someone not to mess with, but he’d also formed strong alliances with not only several powerful witches but shifters and demons as well.
