“Any word from Calvin yet?” Maria asked, hugging herself.

“No, and I’ve been by his house. His housekeeper was there. He hasn’t been home for several days.”

Isaac.

Both he and Maria weren’t part of the original prom committee, but if the pictures in the yearbook were anything to go by, they’d been friends for years. Maria leaned into him, burying her face against his chest, and Isaac curled his arm around her.

“He’s dead, isn’t he?” Jenna said.

Ryan sat on the couch beside her. “We don’t know that.”

“He’d never do this, just vanish and not tell us where he was,” Chase said, sitting on the floor at Jenna’s feet. He looked a mess—his hair was all over the place and his eyes were bloodshot. Jenna threaded her fingers through his hair, and he leaned into her touch. “First Clara, then Margot and Katana…now Calvin—”

“Don’t even say it,” Robert bit out.

“Why not? It’s fucking obvious someone’s targeting us!” Chase cried.

“Not someone. Willow fucking Thornheart,” Isaac growled.

“I don’t understand,” Maria said, visibly shaking. “Why would she do that?”

“The Thornhearts are power-hungry bitches. Having that cemetery isn’t enough for them,” Isaac all but snarled. “She used her connections to stop our development. We made a move against her, and she didn’t like it. So she’s doing to us what she did by setting her dog of a mate onto my brother, she’s eliminating us.”

The guy truly hated us, more than hated, but he was insane if he thought Willow would go on a killing spree over that.

“She’ll pay for this. I’ll make sure of it,” Isaac said, actually shaking.

Robert threw his plate suddenly, with a roar. It smashed against the wall, mashed potatoes and beans sliding to the floor. “How? No one knows where she is and she’s picking us off one by one. The twisted bitch is too powerful for us to stop. Willow Thornheart’s turned into a monster like the hellhound she’s fucking,” Robert said viciously.

I had to bite my lip hard, my fingernails digging into my palms as fury filled me.

Maria rushed to Robert, wrapping her arms around him, tears rolling down her face. “I’m so scared.”

Isaac clenched and unclenched his fists. “I have every enforcer on the council’s payroll searching for her. I promise, we will get her.”

They truly believed it was Willow. This was utter madness.

“You’re doing everything you can, Isaac,” Jenna said, still playing with Chase’s hair like he was a puppy at her feet. “As long as we look out for each other, like we always have, we’ll be okay. We know she’s coming, and we can prepare for it.” She smiled at Isaac and held out her hand. He went to her instantly and took it. “I’m so glad you found your way back to us. You’re one of us and always have been.”

“You know what a fucking monster my mother is. I hate that I let her control me for so long, and stayed away because of her. And now Elmer’s gone…that bitch got her mate to kill him…” He shook his head and took an angry breath. “You, all of you, you’re the only family I have left.” He leaned in and kissed Jenna…on the lips. “I used to hate going back to school after the summer.” He pressed his forehead to hers. “It fucking killed me.”

“I hated it as well,” Maria said, lips quivering. “Being sent away felt like a punishment after I met all of you.”

Jenna smiled sadly, a tear sliding down her cheek. “Those summers, we had so much fun. All of us together.”

Ryan ran his hand down her leg, and she reached over and grabbed his dick through the front of his pants. Then Isaac pressed his lips to hers, kissing her again. Only this time, he didn’t pull back.

What the actual fuck was going on here?

Robert took Maria’s hand, and they sat down as well. Maria climbed onto his lap, then they were kissing as well. Chase crawled closer, and Maria pulled away from Robert, then kissed him, while something similar was happening between Jenna, Isaac, and Ryan.

Holy fuck.

Okay, I wanted to get the hell out, right the fuck now, but I was stuck.

“Shall we go to the playroom?” Chase asked.

Playroom? Jesus.
