“Because you’re free to be who you were always meant to be.”

His eyes danced with joy as he stared down at her and she felt it, his happiness for her. It filled her up, warming her from the inside out.

He was such a wonderful guy. “Thank you, Kryos. For everything.” Lifting up on her toes, she wrapped her arms around his neck and pulled him down, kissing him on the cheek.

Kryos froze.

What the hell am I doing? But she couldn’t make herself release him, and she kissed him again, grazing the corner of his mouth and those sensual, perfect lips.

He made a growly sound, and it vibrated in the pit of Meredith’s stomach and between her thighs. There was no stopping the next kiss, but this time her mouth finally covered his.

Kryos instantly leaned in, wrapping himself around her and lifting her off her feet. He kissed her back with the same urgency as she kissed him, and when he tilted his head, fingers thrusting into her hair, and dragged his tongue along the seam of her lips, she opened for him, sucking his tongue into her mouth on a desperate moan.

Her legs hooked around his waist, and her hips had a mind of their own, rolling against him, desperate for friction, for what he gave her in her garden shed when he’d shown up late at night.

Kryos pulled back with a gasp. “Oh god. What are you doing to me, sweets? I can’t get enough of you.”

His words took a moment to work their way through the haze of her lust, but when they did, she jerked back, unhooked her legs from around him, and stumbled back a step.

“Meredith?”

He was breathing heavily, wide chest pumping with his labored breaths, and there was an obvious bulge behind the zipper of his jeans.

She jammed her legs together and sucked in a breath. “I’m sorry.”

“Sorry?” he rasped.

“I keep…tempting you. I know you say you’re half demon, but you look all angel to me. You’re an angel, Kryos.”

He frowned. “And you don’t…like that?”

“No. I mean, yes…” She was making an utter fool of herself. “We’ve kissed, more than once, and…other things. I’m so sorry…it was me who initiated it, every single time. I all but begged you. You’re an angel, doing that stuff has to be forbidden or something, right? Angels are chaste and holy and…I don’t know. I keep throwing myself at you. I don’t want to get you into trouble with, um, the other angels or whatever.” Then something pushed forward in her mind, and not for the first time. “I’m going to Hell now, aren’t I? For getting my demon germs on you. Oh god…I mean, gosh. I’m definitely going to Hell now, aren’t I?”

He held up his hands and strode toward her, and she backed up until she hit the wall.

Kryos crowded her, his hands going to either side of her head, and he leaned in. “No. Kissing me will not send you to Hell. And no, I’m not chaste and kissing is not forbidden. Nothing is forbidden. I’m not all angel, remember? I don’t hang with other angels, except one, and even he’s not chaste or pure or whatever.”

“Nothing’s forbidden?” she whispered, her belly doing flips.

His gaze grew even more intense. “Nothing.”

They stared at each other for long minutes, and the tension grew with every second that ticked by.

“Meredith,” he said suddenly.

“Yes?”

“I need to tell you something.”

For some reason, at his rasped words, her heart began thundering in her chest. “Okay.”

He licked his lips, and his body trembled.

“Kryos, what’s going on?”

A small shaky smile curled his lips. “What I’m going to tell you is…big. I’ve known for a while, but I was waiting for the right time to tell you.” His gaze dipped to her mouth and back up to her eyes. “Do you trust me?”

“Yes.” The word came out before her brain caught up. But it was true. She did trust him. She’d never trusted anyone like she did him.
