Her world, her life had dramatically changed tonight, and would never be the same again.
The warehouse came into view, and he inwardly winced. It wasn’t the most welcoming sight.
He held her a little tighter, breathing her in. If he had his way, she’d stay in his room with him. But for now, she needed to be with the other demi-demons like her. Just until she knew the truth.
Again, he and his inner demon were in full agreement, they both hated the idea of being parted from her. Meredith was Kryos’s mate and he needed her close. Unfortunately, what Meredith needed was time.
There was also the fact that currently his room was an empty space with corrugated iron walls and barely any furniture. Not exactly homey.
He headed for the balcony jutting from the fifth floor. It led to their main meeting room, their control room he guessed, where they coordinated and allocated sections of the city to patrol and a whole lot of other shit.
He landed. “You can lift your head now, sweets.” Her face was pressed against his throat, and each of her warm breaths sent tingles over his body.
“I don’t want to,” she said.
He ran his hand over her soft hair. “You’re safe now, Merri.”
“Are we on solid ground?”
“Yeah, we’re on solid ground.”
Slowly, she lifted her head and looked around, then back at him. “Your wings are gone.”
“They do that when I don’t need them,” he said and reluctantly lowered her to her feet, then took her hand because he couldn’t bear not to be touching her.
Meredith blinked up at him, looking utterly confused, Christ, lost.
“It’s going to be okay. We’ll talk, I’ll explain things.” He gave her hand a squeeze. “We’ll get through it together.” Thankfully, she didn’t pull her hand from his and gripped his fingers in return.
She was doing better than a lot of demi when they first came here. But then he hadn’t actually told her anything yet. The part-angel thing had gone over better than expected, though. His beautiful female wasn’t looking at him like he was a freak…yet.
She hasn’t seen you when you’ve shifted, when you’re all demon.
He inwardly winced, and led her through the doors and into the very basic and mainly empty room. Well, empty of furniture. Standing in a tight circle were four of his brothers: Rocco, Chaos, and back from the city, Gunner, and Tobias.
Zenon, as usual, stood slightly apart, and spotted them walk in first.
As soon as Zen’s yellow eyes came to Meredith, she slammed on the brakes, freezing in place.
Kryos guessed he couldn’t blame her. Zenon was Hell-born and had never really settled in, no matter how long he’d lived here. He had his fists clenched, massive tattooed body held aggressively. And those yellow eyes glowed from the shadow of his long black hair, hanging over most of his face.
“It’s okay,” Kryos said. “You remember Zenon? He and Rocco came to the diner with me.”
The other four males lifted their heads then, their large bodies shifting, turning to face them fully. Zenon looked away with a growl before turning and striding out the door.
“Hey, Meredith,” Rocco said and moved in with a grin, Tobias following. “Good to see you again.” Then his curious stare moved to Kryos.
Kryos held his brother’s eyes. “There was a bit of an incident. But I cleaned up before I brought her in.”
“You gain your power, huh?” Roc asked and leaned in, getting closer to her.
Kryos growled and tugged Meredith to him. “Obviously.”
“Power?” Meredith’s eyes widened.
Tobias moved in as well, getting a better look at her, then glanced up at Kryos. “This is why you took off?”
“Yes.” Kryos tried to communicate with a hard look that they needed to shut up. It went right over their fat heads.
