She led him to her car, unlocked it, then turned back to him. “I enjoyed myself tonight.” She shook her head, a soft smile on her lips. “I’m not sure what came over me. I haven’t been feeling myself lately, and being with you…it helped.”
“I’m glad,” he said, all the lust he was feeling making his voice rough as hell.
“Kryos?” Her gaze dipped to his lips before lifting again.
“Yeah, Meredith?” His heart raced, smacking against the back of his ribs.
“Will you…kiss me?”
He sucked in a harsh breath.
She licked her lips. “It’s all I can think about.”
Don’t. Don’t do it.
He moved closer before he could stop himself, ignoring the voice of reason screaming in his head. Closing in on her, he backed her up against her car.
This is a bad idea. She doesn’t know what she wants right now, not when she’s so close to her transition, to gaining her power.
He stared down at her, trying to muster the strength to stop, to move away, but then she blinked up at him, all need and innocence…and fear, so much fear that he’d reject her. It was all there in her eyes, and something inside him snapped, creating a jagged opening in his soul. Possessiveness, the violent need to protect poured out, along with an unwavering, roaring force echoing in his skull, telling him to give this female everything she wanted, everything she needed.
That not doing it would be the biggest failing in his long, long life.
Hunger like he’d never experienced before surged through him, and he pressed into her soft, warm curves and dipped his head closer. “Tell me no, Meredith. You need to tell me no.”
His inner demon shrieked in rage, wanting to get closer to her as well, angry that Kryos would even think of backing up.
You need to stop this now.
She shook her head. “I don’t want to.”
Then, fuck him, her hands went to his sides. They were over his T-shirt, just resting there, but having her touch him was too goddamn much. He leaned in closer, appeasing both sides of himself, angel and demon, and dragged his nose up the side of her throat, filling his lungs with her drugging scent.
Her soft gasp, her hands sliding around his waist, had him gritting his teeth. And then she whispered, “Please.” It was the last straw, the thing that shoved him over the edge.
One of his hands slid up into the soft cascade of her dark blond hair to cup the back of her head—it was softer than he’d imagined—his other arm hooked her around the waist and he brought his mouth down on her lush, pouty lips, getting his first taste of her.
Fucking hell.
Meredith moaned and held on to him tighter as he moved his mouth over hers. He tilted his head, and she opened on another hungry sound. Kryos took full advantage and chased her sweet little tongue, devouring the female clinging to him.
What the fuck was happening to him? He shook so hard that if he hadn’t been kissing the hell out of her, his teeth would be chattering. His body vibrated, tingled. Christ, she’d set him on fire with one kiss.
You can’t do this. Stand the fuck down.
His hand slid lower, just above her ass, a mental battle raging within him. If he took this farther, kept touching her, he would fuck her, right there in the parking lot.
She doesn’t know what she’s doing. Let her go.
If he was right about her demon half, she might not really want this, and when she got her power and found out who he was, she’d feel betrayed, unsafe.
That was enough to have him pulling away.
He and his brothers had been created to protect demi-demons like Meredith. What he was doing right now was beyond messed up. When they eventually came for her, dragging her from her life, turning it upside down, they would need her to trust them, to know they would always protect her.
What he’d just done had ensured that wouldn’t happen, not with him.
“Kryos?”
