They all waited, no one moving, no one speaking as they watched the seconds tick by. At the thirty-second mark, Willow popped the corks out of the bottles and, holding all three in one hand—Kyler’s, Roxy’s, and Ursula’s blood—she poured them into the bowl, right on top of the cemetery dirt and stood back.
Something powerful zapped through Kyler and her legs just…gave out. Rocco caught her, lifting her into his arms, and his terrified eyes came to hers. “Ky? Talk to me.”
“She’s okay,” Willow said. “The blood may not be in her veins anymore, but it’s still part of her. Adding it to that powerful mix, she’s gonna feel it.”
“I’m okay,” Ky said and turned to the brick wall, waiting.
The wall flickered, once, twice, then nothing.
Oh no.
“We need more power,” Willow said.
Rocco cursed. “What about our blood?”
Willow shook her head. “That won’t work. It needs to be a descendant of Golath.”
“What about more of mine?”
They all turned, and Roxy stood there in her chunky lace-up boots, leather pants, and a wide grin on her face. “Lucifer told me I couldn’t come, but I couldn’t stay away, not when my babies are here. Promise you won’t tell?”
“We promise,” Kyler said, her heart beating fast in her chest. They had to get Scarlet and T out of there. Now.
“More of yours should do it,” Willow said.
Roxy pulled a small blade as she walked over, then dragged it across her wrist and held her arm over the bowl. Instantly, the flickering started again.
“We’re almost there,” Willow said. “Get Kyler out of here.”
Rocco jumped, his wings beating heavily, and shot up into the air, then lowered Kyler onto the roof beside Luna, Meredith, and Eve. He gave her a quick kiss and jumped back down.
The surge of power that had pumped through Kyler had dimmed, and she moved to the edge to watch. The portal flickered several more times—
Then opened.
“There they are!” Meredith cried. “I can see them. Oh my god, Scarlet.” Her voice was shaking.
Tobias lifted a hand, but it was obvious that though they could see through it, they couldn’t walk through.
“It’s solid,” Chaos growled out.
Luna moved closer to the edge, and the portal’s surface started shaking as she slammed her power into it over and over again. Tobias stood back, his form shimmering behind the barrier, hands lifted, and it looked like he was doing the same from the other side. Meredith grabbed on to Luna and closed her eyes, amplifying Luna’s already impressive power.
Kyler watched in horror as Scarlet turned away, drawing her weapon, engaging whoever had obviously just found them, while Tobias forced every bit of power Lucifer had gifted him into the portal. Scarlet was fighting, covering Tobias, but she’d be outnumbered soon.
A boom echoed down the alley.
The barrier gave with a shrill, earsplitting sound, and Tobias hooked his arm around his mate’s waist and jumped through.
A group of demons followed, running after them.
“I’ve got it,” Luna called and slammed a barrier up in front of the open portal as more demons tried to follow, stopping them in their tracks.
She just had to hold them back for a little longer. The demons seemed to scatter suddenly, their wavering forms falling away.
Oh god.
Diemos.
