“Now!” Scarlet yelled.

Rocco grabbed her hand and rushed for the portal. Somehow, Tobias was holding back Diemos, and the rage on his face made him the stuff of nightmares. Scarlet stood behind her mate, her eyes locking with Kyler’s. “We’ll be okay, I promise.”

“What’s going on? Why aren’t they coming?” Kyler screamed.

Rocco picked Kyler up and exploded through the portal.

Chapter 13

Rocco’s boots hit the pavement, the familiar scent of the alley, of the city filling his lungs as Kyler fought against him.

“We can’t leave them!” She was shaking, adrenaline still hammering her body.

“It’ll be okay.” Rocco looked up, he’d felt them before he’d seen them. His brothers, all there, swords drawn, expressions shocked but alert.

Lazarus strode toward him, then stumbled to a stop.

His gaze sliced to the portal.

It was still open, the surface like water rippling over glass, making it possible for them to see through to the other side. For the first time, there were no demons running out of it, because Tobias was there holding them off. But T wasn’t what had his brother frozen in place, no, it was the female standing with him, her hand lifted and tears sliding down her cheeks.

“Scarlet,” Lazarus choked and stumbled toward her.

“Hi, Dad,” she mouthed.

The big male looked like his legs were about to give out. “Come through, Scar, quick. Step through,” he barked, holding out his hand to her.

Zen, Chaos, Gunner, and Kryos walked up as well as she shook her head and stood aside, showing them the scene playing out behind her.

Tobias stood there, in a standoff with Diemos, power flowing from both of them. Fuck, equally matched in that moment—the power Lucifer had promised him. Lucifer had promised Tobias it would come to him when he needed it most, and it had. Tobias had felt it building the night before, and he finally knew what Lucifer wanted him to do, why he’d sent him there in the first place.

To stop Diemos in this moment, to help Kyler escape.

They didn’t know why or what this meant, only that they knew on the deepest of levels that this was the way it was supposed to be.

“Come through, Scar,” Lazarus roared, his bright green eyes wild. He took a step closer.

Chaos grabbed him, holding him back before he tried to go in after her.

The portal flickered, and Lazarus roared.

“It’s okay,” she mouthed. “I’ll see you soon.”

The flickering grew more intense. The portal was about to close. She turned and called something to Tobias. Their brother turned, and she ran to him. Tobias spun away from Diemos, wrapped her in his arms, and they vanished.

Diemos strode toward the flickering portal, yellow eyes full of fury. They slid to Zenon, his son. Zen stared back with the same yellow eyes, head dipped, his long black hair hanging forward, covering the angel brand burned into his right cheek, and growled, pulling his sword free.

But then Diemos’s cold-as-fuck eyes moved to Kyler, and they locked on. His mouth opened, the veins in his neck bulging with the force of his roar, so much force behind it, the sound of his fury broke through—

The portal flashed.

Then it closed, locking that fucking monster inside.

Kyler pulled away from Rocco, trembling, stumbling away as his brothers all turned to them. Rocco handed the bowl holding Ky’s blood to Gunner and lifted his hands. “Ky, it’s okay. You’re safe now. Diemos can’t get out. He’s trapped in Hell.” Her chest was pumping and her eyes were wild, and she kept looking over her shoulder like she was ready to bolt. “Baby, I got you.”

She was hyperventilating, in full panic-mode, confused, and backing up, getting closer to the street, and he was afraid in her panic, she’d run without looking and get fucking hit by a car.

As soon as he got close enough, he grabbed for her.
