Oh fuck!

“Chaos!” Grace called and sprinted toward her mate as she drew three bolts. Chaos threw out a hand, and Grace leaped onto it, then without missing a beat, her mate propelled her into the air.

“Hey!” she called to the beast as she loaded her bow. The creature spun around as she let them fly. All three arrows hit their mark, imbedding themselves in its eyes, one in each head. Chaos caught her as Grace came down and spun her away.

The cat shrieked and stumbled. The demi swarmed it.

More demons ran through, and the knights backed up to the mouth of the alley. As soon as they were far enough from the portal, the knights, including Rocco, shifted, their bodies bursting into their Kishi demon forms. Crimson skin, black shiny horns, black eyes, and long, viscous fangs, and they tore into the newcomers.

The portal wouldn’t be open much longer, and just as Kyler thought, hoped, that Diemos had changed his mind—dread crawled over her, slithering up her spine.

She spun around.

Oh god.

Diemos.

He walked through the portal, his pale skin almost translucent under the moonlight, dark hair slicked back, yellow eyes full of fury, and with a wave of his hand, tossed the snarling hounds across the alley. His gaze lifted to the demi lining the walls, and he did the same to them. Several were knocked from the edge, their screams cut off by terrible thuds as they hit the pavement.

His gaze moved to her, and he curled his fingers.

No!

Something gripped her throat, his power clutching and pulling her to him like he had last time, but this time there was nothing between them, no portal to dilute his power. Rocco roared and grabbed her, trying to stop her forward momentum. But there was no stopping it.

Rocco was suddenly airborne and tossed aside, hitting the wall with a sickening crunch.

“No!” she screamed.

Tobias strode forward, hands out, and the sound that came from him resonated through the alley. The hold Diemos had on her loosened, and he cried out, the sound pure rage. His eyes turned black, and his hold on her slipped away as he directed everything he had at T.

Kyler rushed to Rocco. He struggled to his feet, pulling her tightly against him.

Tobias roared in agony, his entire body convulsing. Lucifer had given him power, but he was still no match for Diemos. If they didn’t do something, he was going to kill Tobias. Diemos had both hands lifted, and he squeezed them into fists. Tobias made a choking sound.

Scarlet screamed.

Blood dripped from Diemos’s nose and he scowled, swiping at it, looking in confusion at the blood coating his fingers. The demi were hitting him with everything they had, every single one of them, with Eve and others on the battlefield with mental abilities stopping mid-fight to attack Diemos’s mind. James stood with his eyes closed while Grace and several of her crew surrounded him, protecting him, others doing the same around them.

Diemos snarled and stumbled back a step as more blood slid from his nose and dripped down his chin. He looked around furiously, searching for who was in his head.

His eyes flashed, and he looked up, obviously remembering where Luna had been when T and Scarlet had escaped. Diemos threw out a desperate hand. It was enough. Luna screamed and her block fell, exposing the demi she was protecting.

Eve stood in front, her eyes wide open, red with blood, and stared unseeing ahead, others around her doing the same, heads down, fully focused on Diemos. Luna was struggling on the ground and Meredith was forced to abandon her and rush to Eve and the others. Hand shaking, she grabbed Eve’s shoulder. The other demi around her all reached out, touching Meredith as well, drawing on her power, letting it amplify their own.

Diemos lifted his hands—

Oh god no!

Gunner, Lazarus, and Kryos shot into the air, trying to get to their mates, and Diemos waved his other arm, tossing them aside.

Eve screamed in pain and rage as blood slid from her nose and ears, and Diemos stumbled again, grabbing at his head.

“Get back!” Zenon roared.

Snarling and snapping, the hellhounds moved forward, Mia stood among the pack, surrounded by the beasts, protecting her from any demons trying to get to her, while Zenon, in his Kishi demon form, hovered above her, sword drawn, lips pulled back to reveal his massive fangs, the flames building in her hands lapping at his crimson, clawed feet.

Mia’s hair whipped around her face as her flames built higher and higher. Demons shrieked and attacked, and she sent balls of molten fire at them, setting them ablaze. The hounds were forced to fall back to avoid the flames, and unable to hold his demon form in the alley, Zenon instantly shifted back as he dropped to the ground in front of her, protecting his mate with his body.
