“Like what?”
“In love.”
He could have denied it, and maybe he should have to get Ty off his back, but he didn’t.
“I’m happy for you, but what’s going to happen when this romantic getaway is over?”
It was what he’d been worried about from the start, but he still bristled upon hearing it. “I’ll figure it out.”
“What does Eden have to say about it?”
Cole thought back to the last conversation they’d had and realized she hadn’t committed to anything. She’d adopted his usual attitude about enjoying the moment and not worrying about the future. Somehow, they’d switched places.
“We haven’t talked much about it,” he admitted.
“Hmm,” Ty said.
They paused in front of the sporting goods store. “Hmm, what?”
“You better get to it before it’s too late.”
“Too late?”
“According to Hope, Patrick isn’t giving up. He thinks once Eden comes home, she’ll forget all about you, and give him a second chance.”
Cole stiffened, though he wasn’t surprised. “She’s done with him.”
“What about when you’re not around anymore?”
He didn’t even want to consider it. “That’s not going to be an issue.”
“Why? Are you moving to Michigan?”
“I don’t know, okay? Stop asking so many questions.”
“I’m just looking out for you.”
“Is that what you call it?” Cole grumbled.
“Yes. Believe it or not, I want you to be happy.”
Cole sighed, relaxing his shoulders. “Are we having a bonding moment here?”
“Don’t tell anyone,” Ty said.
“Why? Is it against the firemen’s code?”
“Something like that.”
“C’mon. Let’s go in before we run out of time.”
Ty shook his head. “You don’t know women very well. I guarantee they’ll be shopping longer than half an hour.”
Cole nodded and tried to hide his disappointment. His time with Eden was limited, and he wanted to make the most of it.
He trailed Ty through the store, glancing at some of the merchandise, but his mind wasn’t on shopping. Ty paused at a sale rack of swim trunks.
“What do you need those for?” Cole asked.
