“I know. I told him that.”
Hope’s eyes went wide. “What? You told him?!”
“It kind of slipped out while we were eating breakfast.”
“Ohmigod. How embarrassing.”
“How was I supposed to know you’d show up today?”
“You would have if you answered your phone.”
“Sorry about that. Cole and I were—”
“Busy. I get it now, but I was so worried, I had to come.”
They perched on the edge of the bed, and Eden gave her a side hug. “I’m glad you did.”
“Really? It seems a little crowded with the four of us.”
“That’s why Cole and Ty went to the leasing office. A cabin just became available, and Angela said Cole or I could have it. Since we don’t need it now, we thought Ty could stay there.”
“No wonder you didn’t answer your phone. You’re in love,” Hope stated happily.
Eden was still trying to wrap her head around it. “I never expected this to happen.”
“Of course not, but that is what makes it so great,” Hope gushed.
“Do you think it’s too soon?”
“Is there such a thing? Love happens on its own schedule.”
Eden studied her closely, noticing her eyes were no longer smiling. “What’s wrong? Is it Alex?”
Hope sighed. “We’re not dating anymore.”
“How come?”
“He doesn’t want kids, and that’s a deal breaker for me.”
“I didn’t realize you were serious enough to be talking about kids.”
“It came up by accident. We were out to dinner, and I was watching a young couple with a baby at a nearby table. I mentioned how cute the baby was, and that I couldn’t wait to have one someday. When I looked at Alex, he was frowning.”
“Oh no.”
“Yes, and he said without a shadow of a doubt he never wants kids. According to him, they’re too much work, too messy, and too expensive.”
Eden sighed. “Sorry, sis.”
“It’s better that I found out now instead of six months down the road.”
“That’s a good way to look at it.” It sounded like something Cole would say, and Eden smiled.
“Look at you, all giddy,” Hope said. “It’s so good to see you like this.”
“Cole has a lot to do with it.”
“I’ll bet.”
