“Well, he did, last night and this morning. Last night, Cole answered.”

“Cole? How come?”

“I fell asleep while we were watching Dirty Dancing. I went to bed and left my phone in the living room. Cole must have picked it up.”

“Wait a minute. You and Cole were watching Dirty Dancing?” Hope sounded amused.

“That is what you took from all this?”

“Sorry, it just surprised me. That sounds… cozy.”

Eden had a flashback of them in their pajamas, eating popcorn and laughing at the cheesy lines in the movie. Add in the fireplace and rainy night, and it was like a scene from a romance novel.

“Any guy who’s willing to watch Dirty Dancing with you is a keeper,” Hope continued.

Eden rolled her eyes. “Can we please get back to the more pressing matter?”

“Did he kiss you again?”

“No!”

“Not even an almost kiss? The kind where he leans in, and looks longingly into your eyes, and—”

“For the last time, no! There was no kissing or almost kiss. There was just us eating popcorn and watching the movie.”

“Okay,” Hope said, sounding disappointed.

“Why did you tell Patrick where I was?”

“I didn’t think it mattered. It’s not like he’s going to get on a plane and come and find you. Wait a minute. Would he?”

Eden shifted uncomfortably, recalling how sad and apologetic Patrick had sounded. Still, he wouldn’t come here, would he? “I doubt it. I didn’t give him any indication that I wanted him here.”

“Plus, you have Cole now,” Hope added.

Eden shook her head. “I don’t have Cole. We’re just friends.”

“Friends who kiss and watch Dirty Dancing together,” Hope teased.

“Okay. You know what? You’re not helping at all.”

“Sorry, but you have to admit this is crazy. You left Michigan swearing off men, and now you’re shacking up with Cole. In the meantime, Patrick wants you back. You have two men vying for your attention, and I can barely hold on to one.”

“Did something bad happen with Alex?”

“No, why?”

Eden exhaled. “Never mind. Just promise me something.”

“Anything.”

“If Patrick contacts you again, just ignore him. Please.”

“I promise,” Hope said. “I’m sorry if I made things more complicated for you.”

That was an understatement, but it wasn’t her sister’s fault.

“I specifically said that you didn’t want anything to do with him, and not to call you.”
