She joined him and peered inside. “What a collection.”
He pulled out a few of his favorites: Rocky, Die Hard, and Animal House. “What do you think?”
She scrunched up her nose. “Not my favorites.”
“What would you choose?”
She set the mugs on the bookshelf and crouched down to peruse the titles. She pulled out a few DVDs and waved them at him.
“Gone With the Wind, Grease, and Dirty Dancing,” he said. “Hmm.”
She laughed. “Obviously, we don’t have the same taste, so maybe we should forget about it.” She started putting them back in the cabinet.
“No. Wait. How about Dirty Dancing?”
She raised her eyebrows. “Have you ever seen it?”
“I must have missed it when it was at the theater.”
She laughed. “We don’t have to watch it.”
“No, it’s fine.”
She handed him the DVD. “You can set it up while I go change.”
“Change?”
“If you’re wearing pajamas, so am I.” With that, she took the mugs off the shelf and went into the kitchen. “I’ll be back in a few minutes,” she said before disappearing into her bedroom.
As soon as she closed the door, he expelled a big breath. The two of them watching a sexy movie in front of the fireplace in their pajamas. Whose idea was this? Oh right, mine. Way to go, Cole.
Rolling his eyes, he removed the DVD from the case and queued up the movie.
Fifteen
One minute Eden was watching Johnny and Baby dancing at the Sheldrake, and the next, Cole was whispering in her ear. “Wake up.”
She popped her eyes open and saw the credits rolling on the TV screen. “I fell asleep.”
“Yeah. I had to watch the grand finale all by myself. I have to admit, the lift was pretty impressive,” he said.
She sat up, trying to clear the cobwebs.
“You can go to bed, and I’ll clean up,” he offered. They’d had popcorn and soda during the movie, and the remnants were still on the coffee table.
“I’ll help.”
He shook his head. “I got it.”
“Thanks,” she said and shuffled off to her bedroom. She must have instantly fallen back asleep, and the next thing she knew, she smelled the rich aroma of coffee.
She stretched out like a starfish, reluctant to crawl out of the warm bed. She lay there for a few more minutes, recalling how much fun she’d had last night. The fact that she’d fallen asleep proved how comfortable she’d felt with him. It also confirmed that forgetting about their kiss and moving on was the right thing to do.
She leaned over to check her phone, but it wasn’t on the nightstand. I must have left it in the living room last night. She crawled out of bed, put on her robe, and went out to investigate. Her phone was on the kitchen counter with a note beside it.
Here is my number in case you need to reach me for any reason. Hope you slept well. Cole.
He’d written his phone number underneath. She unlocked her phone to enter his number and paused. At the top of the screen was a missed call notification from Patrick. He’d called at eleven p.m., shortly after she’d gone to bed. She must have really been out of it not to hear the phone ring. Had Cole still been downstairs? Was that why he’d left his phone number, in case she was upset by Patrick’s call? However, after a quick scan, Patrick hadn’t left a voicemail or text message.
