“What time do you want to go to breakfast tomorrow?” he asked.

“You don’t have to do this.”

“I want to.”

“Okay.”

“Is eight o’clock good?”

She nodded.

“Will you be okay tonight?”

“I’ll be fine.” She loved that he’d asked.

“If you need anything, remember—”

“You’re right next door.”

He smiled. Then he turned away and placed his hand on the doorknob.

Her gaze roamed over his back, and she admired his broad shoulders and tapered waist. And to think, just moments ago, she’d been pressed up against that body. Her gaze dropped to his butt, high and firm in his cargo shorts…

He turned and caught her looking, and she gave him a little wave. “Hi.”

He laughed. “Were you just looking at my butt?”

“I can’t deny it.”

“And?”

“It’s a good one.”

“Thanks.”

“Welcome.”

“Can I kiss you goodnight?”

“I wouldn’t slap you if you did.”

“Good to know.” He reached out with one arm, pulled her in, and leaned against the door.

This time, their lips met without hesitation as if they were already used to this, but there was nothing rote about it. Her desire flamed anew, and she moaned against his lips.

He was still holding a water bottle in one hand, but he slid the other one down her back and cupped her bottom. She wrapped her arms around his neck, locking him in place. He deepened the kiss, and his tongue tangled with hers in an erotic dance.

Given all his experience, she should have known his kisses would be this good. The thought of it brought her to a screeching halt, and she abruptly pulled back.

Concern flickered over his face. “Are you okay?”

Not really. “Yes. This just feels… I’m not...”

“Ready. It’s okay. I get it.”

“You do?” He seemed to have a better handle on her feelings than she did.

“I didn’t plan on this when I came over tonight.”
