“You were?”
He swallowed hard. “I wanted to see you.”
“But not like this.” She glanced down at her pajamas.
“I don’t mind.” It was just the opposite. Her pajamas were soft, pink, and thin…
“I’m not normally like this.”
“Like what?”
“A hot mess.”
He chuckled. “I don’t think of you like that.” At least, not the mess part.
“How do you think of me? Never mind. Don’t answer that.”
He tightened his arms around her just a bit, hoping she wouldn’t notice. As they gazed at each other for a few beats, the air sizzled around them.
“Bree…”
“Yeah?”
“I need to move, or I’m going to kiss you, and I don’t think you want that.”
She sucked in a breath, and her chest brushed against his. He was pretty sure she wasn’t wearing a bra. He waited for what felt like an eternity, expecting her to break out of his hold.
“What if I want you to?”
His eyes went wide. “Move or kiss you?”
“Kiss me,” she said. Then, without waiting, she went up on tiptoes and pressed her lips to his.
