“I bet Nate Collins could,” Becca replied.

Nate, a popular movie actor, had married a real estate broker from their hometown of Clarkston. Becca had done some real estate transactions with Nikki Collins, and she’d had the opportunity to meet Nate once.

“There are lots of people like him who buy summer homes here,” Becca said. “I’d probably get to meet a lot of hot rich men if I worked here.”

“Shhh,” Beth said. But it was too late. The four men sitting at the neighboring table must have overheard because they looked over and smiled.

Becca gave them a little wave and went back to sipping her Coke.

“I thought you didn’t care about men,” Beth said quietly.

“When did I say that?”

“The other day on the phone when you were blasting me and Brooke for being hopeless romantics.”

“I think you misunderstood. I’m not a romantic, but I’m not opposed to a good romp…”

“Are you ladies ready to order?” asked the waiter, who happened to walk up at that exact moment.

Becca didn’t look the least bit embarrassed as she gave him her order and then eyed him interestedly.

After he walked away, Beth said, “Ohmigod, Bec. That guy was probably ten years younger than you!”

She shrugged. “Doesn’t matter. What about that school psychologist you work with? What’s his name again?”

“Jason Grant?”

“That’s the one. Isn’t he, like, fifteen years younger than his wife?”

“Something like that.”

“Well, see. It can happen.”

“You’re crazy.” They went on to chat about a variety of topics until their food came, and then they dug in with gusto.

“Mmmm. This is delicious,” Becca said after she’d taken a few bites of her fish sandwich.

“I told you.”

“Why didn’t we ever come here as kids?”

“It was probably too expensive, or maybe it wasn’t even here back then.”

“It wasn’t that long ago.”

They were so fixated on their lunch that neither of them noticed one of the men from the neighboring table had approached them—more specifically, Becca. She looked up after swallowing a bite of fish, and her eyes went wide.

Beth had to admit that the man was good looking in an arrogant sort of way. He wore a pink polo shirt (something only cocky guys could pull off), a pair of khaki shorts, and deck shoes. He looked like he might have just come from a round of golf, which was quite possible since there were several golf courses in the area. A pair of black sunglasses was propped up on his head of wavy dark hair, and he flashed a set of pearly white teeth that glowed against his tanned skin. He was Becca’s definition of a hot rich guy.

Amused, Beth sat back and waited to see what he’d come over for, even though she had a pretty good idea.

Taking a brown leather wallet out of his back pocket, he opened it and extracted a business card. Setting it down on the table next to Becca’s plate he said, “In case you’re looking for a hot rich guy.”

He didn’t even wait for a response. He simply smiled and walked away to rejoin his companions, who were waiting for him a few feet away. One of the men clapped him on the back, and they had a good laugh as they sauntered out of the restaurant.

Becca sat there, mouth agape, as she picked up his card and read it.

“Wow. Talk about cocky, huh, Bec?”
