“You mean like you did to me earlier?”
“Touché.”
“Go on,” he said, motioning for her to continue undressing.
Deciding to hurry up and get it over with, she untied the drawstring and yanked down her shorts, but when she went to step out of them, she wobbled, and naturally, Colton was right there to assist.
He smirked as she gripped his upper arm for balance and finished removing her shorts.
“Thank you,” she said with an eye roll.
“Anytime.”
They spread out their beach towels, placing their belongings on the corners to keep them in place, and then they sat down.
Beth reached into her bag for the sunscreen and then realized that she was the only one who’d removed any clothes. “Aren’t you forgetting something?”
“I don’t think so.”
“Your shirt. Don’t you need to take it off?”
Eyebrows raised, he said, “That depends. Do you want me to?”
Okay. This was not going at all as planned. Every sentence was dripping with sexual innuendo. At this rate, it would be impossible to keep things neighborly. Just as she was thinking that, he whipped off his T-shirt and leaned over her to stuff it in her beach bag. Their chests brushed as he did so, and she drew in a breath.
“Sorry,” he said, moving back to his own towel. Seemingly unaffected by their contact, he lay back, laced his fingers behind his head, and closed his eyes.
She sat cross-legged on her towel, her hands clasped in her lap, and peered down at him. “Um, Colton? I think we need to talk.”
