“Well, it’s been my pleasure to meet all three of you. Hopefully, we’ll meet again.” And with that, he turned and sauntered across the room to a table where an attractive young woman was waiting.
“Holy crap,” Brooke whispered. “Between Dadalicious and Hot Rich Guy, this town is smokin’!”
Blocking her mouth with her hand (just in case Simon was looking), Beth hissed, “I can’t believe you two! That’s twice now that I’ve been embarrassed in front of him.”
“Well, how was I supposed to know he was going to walk up right when we were talking about sex?” Brooke glanced in his direction and added, “And what is he doing flirting with us when he’s obviously on a date?”
“Stop staring. Geez. I can’t take you two anywhere.”
“Do you think we should tell Becca?”
“What for? It’s not like they’re dating or anything. She may never see him again.” Of course, if Beth moved to Harbor Springs, it was possible that Becca would run into Simon whenever she came to visit. But Beth didn’t dare bring up Becca’s idea to move there too. The whole family would be in an uproar.
Brooke took another sip of wine and idly twisted the stem in her hand. “I wonder who the woman is? And does she realize how much cleavage she’s showing? It’s a family restaurant, not a seedy bar!”
“Okay. That’s it. We’re leaving.”
“We didn’t even get our bill yet.”
“I’ll go find the waitress and ask for it. You. Don’t move. I’ll be right back.”
Brooke giggled and rolled her eyes.
Beth spotted their waitress at the drink station, where she was filling up a glass with soda. Stepping up beside her, she said, “Excuse me. Could we get our bill? We’re kind of in a hurry.”
“Oh. Sure. I’ll bring it right over.”
When Beth walked back to their table, she passed Simon and his date on their way out. The woman looked straight ahead, but Simon nodded at Beth and winked. The cad.
“I don’t think she was wearing any underwear,” Brooke said when Beth returned to the table.
“Who?”
“Simon’s date. Her dress was really snug, and I didn’t see any panty lines.”
“Seriously? Are we really talking about this?”
“It’s just so…blatant, you know? She might as well wear a sign that says…”
Beth held up her hand to stop Brooke from continuing, and a good thing too, because, just then, the waitress came rushing up to their table.
“Sorry it took me so long to get back to you, but apparently, somebody already paid your bill. You ladies have a good night.”
“Wow. What a great town!” Brooke said as they stood up to leave.
Beth nodded, deciding to let Brooke think that Harbor Springs was full of good Samaritans. Only she and Simon Calloway knew the truth.
