Skimming his hands around to her back, he swiftly unhooked it and added it to the growing pile of clothes on the end of his bed.
The air conditioner was running, but she felt a burst of heat when he lowered his head and sucked a nipple deep into his mouth.
“Colton,” she sighed, tipping her head back and thrusting her breasts forward.
He pulled back slightly and swirled his tongue around her nipple before releasing it.
“What am I thinking? We don’t have to stand up this time,” he said gruffly. He backed them up to the bed and lay back, pulling her down on top of him.
With her hair cascading around his face, she bent and kissed him, sucking on his full lower lip while he fondled her breasts. Then she sat back on his pelvis and rocked her hips against him while he gazed up at her.
“Beth?”
“Yeah?”
“If you keep doing that, I’m going to shoot off like a teenager, and I’d really like to be inside you before that happens.”
Giggling, she rolled off him, and they hurriedly removed the rest of their clothes.
Lying back in the middle of his bed, she wriggled her bare body against the comforter while he quickly rolled on a condom. He came back over her, his erection pointing straight to the bullseye, but he paused to peruse her naked body before slowly lowering himself down.
She eagerly tilted her hips and then watched as his shaft disappeared inside, completely filling her. They took a moment to adjust, and then he began to move, plunging deep and then pulling out before plunging in again.
Beth had learned a long time ago that there was a difference between having sex and making love. Today, at that moment, there was no doubt that she and Colton were making love.
It was evident in the way he kept his eyes riveted to hers, tuned in to her every response and intent on pleasing her. It was the way he touched her with equal parts tenderness and possessiveness like he was marking her as his. It was the way his eyes sparkled with desire, appreciation, and caring, making their connection feel that much deeper. It was everything.
Slinging her left leg over his hip and gripping her bottom, he plunged deeper, causing her to moan with pleasure. Somehow, he’d found the perfect angle to satisfy them both, and digging her fingers into his biceps, she held on and enjoyed the ride.
He didn’t stop moving until they both shuddered with satisfaction, and then he gently rolled them on their sides so they could catch their breath.
“You really are perfect,” he said with a grin.
She almost said, “Nobody’s perfect,” but decided to let it go. Maybe what he was trying to tell her was that she was perfect for him. And that, she wanted to believe.
Cupping his chin in her hand, she kissed him and said, “I think you’re pretty perfect too.”
They lay there for a while longer, kissing and caressing, until Colton excused himself to clean up. “Stay right there,” he instructed as he padded naked into the connected bathroom.
While he was gone, she propped herself up against the headboard and glanced around the room. She hadn’t paid much attention to it when she was there the first time, but now she took it all in. Sturdy handmade furniture, a wood-framed mirror, a blue pottery vase with dried flowers in it, and a picture of Joey in his soccer uniform were the only adornments. This was a man who lived simply, someone who cared more about his relationships than his things.
Her attraction to him had grown beyond the physical. She liked what he stood for, what he believed in. She liked where his priorities lay and how being a good father was vitally important to him. He was a man of his word: steady, strong, and trustworthy—a genuinely good-hearted human being.
She loved being in his presence, his house, his life. She loved the way he smiled at her like he found her amusing, the way he laughed, reluctantly at first and then heartily. She loved the way he honored his commitments to his job, his family, and to her.
And right then, she loved how sexy he looked as he crossed the room wearing nothing but a smile.
“Hey,” he said as he lowered himself onto the bed.
“Hey.”
“Everything good?”
“Um-hmm. I was just looking around your room since I didn’t pay attention the last time we were in here.”
“Not much to look at.”
“Did Joey make that vase?”
