“Anyone like who?”
“Like Mom and Dad. And Kelsey.”
“They’re going to know something’s up when you show up with him to the party.”
“If I show up with him.”
Stacy sighed. “Fine. Anyway, it’s your story to tell, not mine.”
“Thank you.” Then, because Jenna was truly happy about her sister’s news, she wrapped her arms around her and squeezed.
Stacy made a strange sound between a grunt and a laugh. “What was that for?”
“It was a congratulations and a thank-you-for-understanding-me hug.”
“Well, you might have cracked a rib, but I’ll live.”
They both laughed as Stacy opened the door and stepped outside.
“Keep me posted on all the wedding stuff.”
“I will. Oh, and you might want to wear a little extra concealer today.”
Jenna assumed she meant to cover the dark circles under her eyes, but then Stacy pointed to her neck.
“What? Ohmigod. Did he—”
“Leave his calling card? Yes, he did.”
“I’m going to kill him!”
Stacy was still laughing as she walked down the driveway, climbed into her car, and drove off.
After she’d gone, Jenna marched into the bathroom to assess the damage. Sure enough, there was a round red spot on her neck where Beck had been kissing her. However, as indignant as she thought she was and ought to be, her lips curled into a smile.
Seeing the mark reminded her of the great sex they’d had. Although, if Beck were here, he’d have referred to it as lovemaking. Now she circled back to the question she’d been asking herself since she’d left his bed.
Is this for real? Am I falling for my first love—again?
